EDP estimated readings

Similar tale but with a twist. Someone in a block of flats decided to be smart-ass and tee'd their electric into the next doors, through the wall. Also did the water and gas. Took them about 6 mths to notice no difference in their rent - then they found out the rent included ALL service costs!!!

We have a heat pump and it works very well. Once the pool is up to temperature it kicks in occasionally to maintain the set point. A cover is essential of course. We tend not to use the pool November through February as the ambient air temperature is too low and makes the transition from warm pool to warm house via freezing cold air too painful! Also bear in mind that, because the heat pump relies on drawing supplementary heat from the atmosphere, there reaches a point where this is too low for effective operation - below 5degC it won't work. Also the system needs a 3-phase power supply.

Yep totally agree - its the dash from the warm pool to the house that ruins it! - You can get single phase heat exchanger units, but 3 phase is more efficient and better.

Widge you are frightening me. we pay a monthly amount agreed by our lawyer and EDP. We do not have pool heating as you know. by the way I can vouch for Macs pool, it's like a bath.I think we have been paying €150pm. After the summer we gave the lawyer our readings and we were told it was OK. On our meter we have 3 separate readings but have no idea which is the right number. I am praying the guests there now don't overdo the heating as we do not have a log fire YET! on the points of Macs bills yes he his frugule, but pretty good with dishing out the alcohol. he also does not have irrigation so for all those needing to water your grass you are bound to end up with much bigger bills. it will be interesting after a year we tot up our utilities per month. i am hoping we pay out no more than €625 to include full time employed maid, management, gardening ad hoc, pool, water and electric. but let's see.

Don't wish to frighten you Licy, just sharing my experience with others. I have 8 years of detailed accounts to support my numbers but obviously every villa is different.

Sorry didnt answer about the area of mats, the larger the area the better, but realistically you will only get an 8-10C rise in temp - so if its 15C the pool would ony get to low/mid 20's at best. A Heat pump is the only answer for Nov-March.
AND - you still have to get out and dry off in the cold!!

I would just like to let everybody know that speaking with EDP no matter how you read your meter , there will always estimate it anyhow.
I asked them for a specific date of when to read the meter and they told me there wasnt one- whether you pay monthly or not-
I have a monthly billing and have been sending readings in online and when I got my bill it was all estimates, I questioned them about this and they said that the only way to not have estimates is to pay the say price every month, which I very wrong.
They told me that they were aware that people were not happy with estimates and that they are looking at changing this.

If you submit readings on random dates every month you will still get estimated consumption from that date until the billing date. At the billing date it should be a much better estimate, due to the short time-frame, than on the bills of those who don't submit any readings.

On the reverse of your bill is a panel headed 'Envio de Leituras', below which is shown the relevant reading submission date 'Data aconselhável de envio'. If you submit a reading online on that date you will get an invoice with no estimated consumption charged.

However you will still have all the usual corrections and credits for any consumption previously charged based on previous estimated readings.
