Hi,
Anyone know a place where I can hire a Car (4 people) for 2-3 days and if so, what the cost is for the 2-3 days ?

Try the website http://www.travelsupermarket.co.uk They were quoting around £25 for 7 days at the end of the month, so am assuming it will be cheaper than this for 2-3 days.

What ever you do steer clear of Goldcar Hire, they unsuccessfully tried to charge me 97 euros for a tank of petrol suffice to say we walked out of the office and lost our £10 deposit try Steen we have just booked with him for Sept.

Try Travelrent they are really great. We use them 4-5 times a year and have had no problems. They are as reasonably priced as any. Enjoy your trip :D

Thank You for your advice and help. I will take a look at Travel Supermarket and TravelRent as mentioned.
Only thing i do notice on some sites is they charge for delivery to the village. If you hire from the Airport straightway after landing, thats all great. But we have our transfer to the village and hoped we could get a hire car when we get there for few days, rather than also having to take it back to airport.

Anyone got any idea's. Is it not worth doing.

Thanks

I would also recommend Travelrent. Our last trip in Feb Fri evening until Sun evening it was €25 plus €20 for the tolls which you get back if you do not use the motorway. Do you really need a car if you are in a central base? You need to consider if you need to go to the supermarket for food etc as local small supermarkets are more expensive than Intermarche for example. Do you intend to go off campus visiting other towns? A taxi would cost quite a bit but a few taxis for short trips also soon add up too. we took a taxi about 3kms late at night cost us about €10 which was expensive in my view. Where are you staying and what time of year? It might be better to ignore the payment to get to the complex and take the car from the airport which is cheaper in my view than spending €50 to drop at CVO.

That is good to know, but what is your last charge rate as I guess the car comes from elsewhere and they may already factor that into provision of the car. The most we have paid for a small was €200 for 2 weeks in September. our car hire for 5 nights/6days over late December/early Jan 2013 was €55 for example.

Haven't got a clue what they charged but I know they were reasonable and the villa owner recommended them to us.
We have used Zitauto for the last few years but always pick up and drop off at the airport, they are excellent to deal with.

OK. zit is actually the brother of the owner at TravelRent. my cousin used zit too. it's always good to know different car hire companies. I looked on their site but it seems to refer to terms and conditions of €50 each way, which is a lot of money. I have emailed them to check if that is the case as I would like to give our guests other sources too. If they answer I will post.

Waste of time contacting Zit through the web site. Contact them direct at zitauto@mail.telepac.pt
I have used them for 16 years and have put loads of business their way and never a problem. They only operate out of the airport though but I still prefer to do this than mess about with transfers and the cost is reasonable when you consider the whole package.

Yes the webs site was a lot more expensive than TR, but being brothers that probably started off together in business, then set up their own business must compete against each other. We have used TR for 11 years, but did try YOR last year.
prices good too after saying they were expensive and not to charge us for arriving later than 9pm. We often found them difficult to locate in the P4 car park as the van was not always on site so we had to phone.
I think in my earlier post it's pretty clear the charge for collecting in CVO seems to rule out hiring a car. Certainly with our villa it is possible not to have a car once you sort out the airport trip. no idea what the people intended to do with their few days, which makes all the difference on renting a car in my view. For us we always have a car for the convenience.
