Walk : 4 February, 2013 ; Silves, Enxerim

Post by Geoff »

This is a new walk, which some of us did a recce on a couple of weeks ago.

It's about 2 hours 15 minutes , and has quite a long climb in the early stages,(about ten/fifteen minutes) up some scree, and is quite steep in places ; but after that the paths are good and there is a gentle descent, along with some lovely views. Cafe does coffee and beer at 80cents!

Walking boots or stout trainers are recommended, along with walking poles.....and a hat and water.

If it's wet, we won't be going.....but bring some wet weather gear in any case!

Tel 282 380015 if you need more info, preferably between 0830/0930 and 1700/1900......before 0915 on the day!

As usual, all at your own risk, and no charge.

Start : 1000

Directions:
From CVO, go to Silves and cross the bridge.
Turn right on the N124 , and bear right over the next roundabout in the direction of Messines.
Go past the Galp petrol station , on the left , until, after about 1.5kms from the bridge, you turn left almost opposite the residential guest House Vila Sodre.

Almost immediately, turn right, and park after about 100m, just before the Cafe Cantinho do Enxerim.
IF you go over the bridge on the N124, you have gone too far!

Please indicate below if you can come.

A beautiful day, and a record turnout of 27 people, welcoming newcomers Ros, Paul & Carol and Maggie & Paul , along with many old walking friends.....some found the walk a little challenging, especially on the longish incline, but all successfully completed it....a hearty core of 11 even volunteered to climb up that little bit extra to the trig point, see below:

Photo of all the group awaited, from other walkers, as our camera was left in the car!

Hi Ken
Yes, my mistake....Rod is indeed Rob, and yes, they have been here since mid Jan. Both he and Maureen survived the walk and plan to be with us on monday!....if you need his phone number, PM me.

I seem to be carrying a rusksack - how did that happen?

Enjoyed the walk Geoff and the company of everyone. I will put a couple of photos up in a couple of days!
