A difficult Journey

Having endured a particularly poor Christmas (I won't bore you with the details) my wife and I were looking forward to our 1st of 3 visit's to CVO this year on the 25th of Jan.It was with great relief that the snow that had fallen Friday the 18th (7ins) and Monday the following week (another 8ins) had just about disppeared which would mean a pretty trouble free trip to Manchester airport first thing Saturday morning.No such luck around about 6.30pm it started to snow again more so than the two previous occasions,local BBC travel reports were informing people in the High Peak not to make any unnecessary journeys, all but one road out of Buxton was closed the A6 north bound was open with great care (that normaly meant there was a few inches of snow) so at 9.45pm we decided to make a dash for the airport via Macclesfield.I ventured outside to clear the driveway 9ins of the bloody white stuff had fallen in the space of two and quarter hours this was cleared pronto,and at 10.15pm we set off to my wife's mother's in Macclesfield normaly just 11 miles away.Cars vans and wagons littered the road out of Buxton the first hill we encountered Fairfield Road was covered in 4/5 ins the little 107 took this all in it's stride and sailed past the usual collection of poor drivers who have no idea how to drive in snow,Fairfield common which is a long exposed piece of road was deserted visbilty was down to about 30 yards and it was still bloody snowing.The conditions did not improve,until we reached Disley which was 15 miles down the road from Buxton,eventually at about 11.50pm we arrived in Macclesfield where my wife mother informed us that it had been raining all evening,so 4hrs of disturbed sleep on the sofa followed before we set off to the airport.The flight thankfully was on time and arrived early in Faro,this was not quite the end of our woes,as the car hire company we used tried unsuccesfully to con us over the price of a full tank of petrol 97 euros! anyway I told them to stick their car were the sun does not shine,and proceeded to another car hire company who dealt with us properly.That's our little story not over exiciting but I felt like sharing it.

The latest is that they will not accept your annual insurance claiming that it is invalid ???

I thought goldcard-d were well flagged. Didn't a poster on here say they even siphoned the petrol out before leaving the car back as they begrudged car hire company the petrol?

The wife's car, we had arranged parking at H+P that journey was fine as it had only rained on that side of the hill.
