Walk 11 February 2013 : Padreira : CANCELLED

This is a relatively new walk, first tried out last november, so hope I can remember it all OK!

It's just over 2 hours, a nice walk through orange groves by a stream, and through some forest....but also a couple of climbs, one quite steep, well rewarded with beautiful views! Some parts of the descent are a bit steep, so walking poles advisable. There is a lot of scree on the ascents/descents, but it isn't too slippery.

Directions:
From CVO, go over Silves bridge and right on N124 for about 4.9kms, driving past 2 cafes, one called " Casa de Pasta a Norinha" and one " Taberna da Norinha" , both on the left hand side of the road.

Turn left at a sign saying " Pedreira , Pinheiro e Garrado" and drive 0.4kms : turn left and park opposite Cafe Retiro dos Pescadores.

NB Do NOT turn left on N124 at the earlier sign saying just " Pinheiro e Garrado" , which is before the 2 cafes.

Start 10.00 am.

Wear stout trainers/walking boots....a walking pole would be useful. Sunhats hopefully recommended, but some wet weather gear might come in handy. Please note that the walk will be cancelled of the weather is poor.

Do you know where I could buy a map of the region, which gives has the walks marked on it? I am thinking of something similar to the OS explore series.
Could you also let me have contact details of any other walk organiser in the region please?

Am afraid I am unaware of OS type maps.....but there are the Julie Stathom & Sunflower books that do walks...will try & remember to bring them on monday to show you : they aren't perfect, but are quite useful guides.
Julie does twice weekly walks, 5€/pp.....see her advert in Portuguese News...usually titled " Lets Walk in .....".

There's also another book detailing walks on the coast.....little red book....Silves Info Office also have a booklet, but thats of very limited use I found!

Having said that, I have heard that there is a shop in Faro that sells something like an OS map...but I haven't seen one in the flesh.....PM me your email address & I will send you whereabouts.

Would you believe that I nevertheless turned up at the cafe, in case anyone missed the notice above ( don't say i don't look after you) and found Su, Mike & John. After setting the world to rights over a coffee, the 4 of us did the walk in brilliant sunshine...well almost, but it only drizzled for 5 minutes.....and I have the photos to prove it.

But yes, am OK for thursday...we can do it in reverse!
