No offence intended but it appears that the population of Broadstairs is a couple of thousand greater than Albufeira. It might be that people in Broadstairs move very slowly so are easier to count :D

Widge - I don't live that far from Broadstairs but I don't go there very often however I do know what it's like and comparing it to Albufeira or even CVO is ridiculous. I'm not going to argue about population size as i just don't know or care but the sea side bit is small - it's a place for young families with Punch & Judy on the beach! It's a sleepy little place with very few bars so I suggest that you find somewhere else to make your comparisons.

As for the real subject of this Topic - I think it's a crying shame that some bars are shutting down in CVO but life goes on and the town will still survive as it is such a great place to holiday. New bars will spring up as the economic cycle moves on and the problem with the music will be sorted out. Sometimes there has to be a clear out in order to stimulate new blood.

I wasn't in fact I was just making the point that Carvoeiro is nothing like Albufeira & even less like Broadstairs.

there are a couple of new restaurants, eg. the revamped Primavera which IMO have thankfully raised the bar a bit in town, it was beginning to look tired, particularly on the hill.
I agree with Cereza, in the natural cycle of things old bars & restaurants will go and new ones will spring up; before we left we went to Praia da Rocha quite a bit, there's lots of new & spruced up places there, 5 or 6 years ago it was beginning to look like quite a tip.

Carvoeiro's on a downturn in that cycle right now, a shame to see, but things have to die in order for new life to emerge 8)

The days of " Praia da Surbition " are over and the closures we are seeing are part of that process as they do not meet the needs ( not always their fault ) of residents and visitors in the 21st Century . It will require some enlightened thinking from those in authority and business for Carvoeiro to re brand itself to meet the demands of the next generations of holiday makers. EG The winter golf market, why don,t bars or restaurants reach agreement with Pestana and offer discounts/coupons to groups of golfers. Pestana has a new marketing edge and the bars/restaurants get the much needed business.
There are too many in or who regularly visit carvoeiro whe are resistant to change, just look at the fuss when the square was given its much needed tidy up. The example given of Praia Da Rocha is a good one it used to have a " Kiss Me Quick " reputation but a lot of money has been spent not just by the local council but by business to bring it up to date, new car parks, walk ways, refurbished hotels etc. The market is changing ,we know of one hotel owner ( not Carvoeiro ) who has realised that flexibility is one of the paths to success, they no longer have a min stay policy in the summer and have seen a significant increase in bookings. Not from the UK but from new markets .

We aren't all Casa Surbiton.....or as we call it Surbiton on the Hill.

That's just over there on the west side of town.
The rest of us live in the Portuguese village/town of Carvoeiro :D

Having in the course of business looked at some very large and expensive villas to the east of Carvoeiro I know which part remind me of Surbiton.

Not this old chestnut again, up the hill down the hill!!, why do you let Bruce wind you up?

He knows that up past restaurant hill towards centinannes, there are more large resorts (rocha Brava , ADM)for instance and hotels, All we have are a couple of smaller resorts, a few farms and fields with goats and a lot of portuguese residents, I think the Centiannes and Vale do milo area is much posher and manicured (but obviously less portuguese) :D

So ADM, Rocha Brava etc explains why I have heard Carvoeiro referred to as the " English Village " as well as Praia Da Surbiton.

It used to be so easy in the 80s. Jorge de lagos and the Brits to the east and Muller and the Germans to the west.
