If you think spending a couple of hours or so in the Cocktail garden is a cheap night out for a family, you must be loaded up to the ears!EMM wrote:Yes there was music in the Square and Monte Carvoeiro, no longer outside of Mungos. The audience for these seemed to be predominately families with children or those looking for a cheap night out.

No....you wouldn't go in there because you knew that once your wife heard me, she would see you as an untalented boring old fart!!!HampshireRich wrote:I declined to go into the Roundup with him last summer - just to save his lifewidge wrote:Have you heard Bruce Wallis doing his Barry Gibb impersonation in falsetto ??? Re: Phoenix Nights/ Up The Pub
Why don't you put all this childish rubbish in Chit Chat or even better phone each other if you want to trade insults ?
What sort of impression do you think it gives to prospective new members or visitors to CVO ?
If you want to do something useful why not start a petition to present to Lagoa Camara requesting some relaxation of the present draconian regulations relating to live music.

Re: Phoenix Nights/ Up The Pub
So you think living in England with snow, cloudy skies, high cost of living with only your dislike of karaoke and your friends farts to talk about is life.
We live in sunny, warm, snow and flood free Carvoeiro and, in the past two months, have listened to live music of pop, jazz, folk, orchestral genre plus been to two ballets performed by the Moscow Ballet Company, two plays and a pantomime. We regularly enjoy 3 course meals with wine and liqueurs for under 8 euros or haute cuisine (slightly more !!). All this within a 10 km. or 20 minute drive (or even 15 euro taxi fare) of Carvoeiro.
I think it is you who have your values wrong and would encourage anyone coming here to ignore your childish (yes I do mean that) repartee and if they want anything but karaoke to simply read the events pages in the local press or go to the tourist office for advice.
I think it is you who have your values wrong and it is we here who in fact have a life.

Re: Phoenix Nights/ Up The Pub
Valid points Roy, but this thread started out as a discussion about yet another business closing and the reasons behind that closure ( and many others ).
In your Carvoeiro live music in the bars in town may not be of interest but for those who chose the Algarve as their holiday destination something to do or somewhere to go at night are factors. The majority just want to walk into town, have a meal and enjoy a few hours entertainment.
If all Carvoeiro can offer is a Karaoke bar, and a few places with occaisional music it will continue to see a decline in visitors and we will see more places close.

Re: Phoenix Nights/ Up The Pub
Thank you EMM for bringing us back to topic. I do object to being told to 'get a life' and also for General Carvoeiro being used for Chit Chat.
It is a vicious circle - if people are put off visiting because of such comments then there is likely to be in turn even less music due to economic factors.
Instead let us trumpet the virtues of our region, get more people (and hence money) here to encourage traders.

OK.....Rich and I were being a little skittish....Widge started it, but you, EMM and Roy, make the voice of the long term visitors and expat residents seem very up yourselves and pompous. I'm not sure which would deter the casual visitor more!!
I probably wouldn't go as far as "Get a life"........but maybe take yourselves a little less seriously gentlemen????

Re: Phoenix Nights/ Up The Pub
I'm glad Roy enjoys himself in CVO - and so he should. However, any casual visitor to this sight will be put off by the constant whining, moaning and general miserable outlook from certain humourless ex-pats and villa owners in CVO, rather than a couple of posters have a rude little laugh with each other - the audacity of having a sense of humour!
I can't get All the British T V program's on the new satellite service, they have had the nerve to put tolls on the A22 so it's going to cost me a few more Euros to drive, a bar I use once every month is closing, the exchange rate has dropped by 2 cents so I get £20 less for every £1000 exchanged .... Etc etc etc! - whine, whine, whine - all we seem to hear now on this site!
Well, dear casual visitor, take no notice of them - there are people on this site with a sense of humour, CVO is a tourist resort (tough luck ex-pats but that's life!) and it happens to be a wonderful place to come on holiday - I know because I have been coming here for over 20 years. There are always good bars and restaurants - bad food or bad service are rarities in the extreme but yes, some do close and others take their place. If more of the ex-pats used them instead of hiding in their villas during the summer, they may not close so often.
So, dear casual visitor, give CVO a try - and maybe put a Euro into an ex-pats pockets- it might make them smile! And let's not forget, the Portuguese are having a real tough time in this recession - give them your support and spend your money.
