Bank Holiday 8th December
Bank Holiday 8th December
We are out for weekend of 8th December. Have to visit to financas in Lagoa. Was hoping to make this visit on Monday 10th. From googling see that 8th December is a public holiday in Portugal. Anyone know if Financas take the Monday off in lieu or is it strictly 8th December that's the public holiday?

They will be open. They are closing for good soon and you wil have to go to Silves or Portimão!

Unfortunately not. I recently dumped my fiscal rep, changed the address on correspondence to my home address and happy with that. As the IMI tax only comes in my name I thought that was that. Former fiscal rep now getting stroppy and has informed me that I have 30 days to remove mrs soap from their records with Financas or else.....Paraiso wrote:Nice Joke!
Afaik there is not a lot they can do if I don't but just to be on the safe side if Financas is open on Monday then we will change her address too, returning home on Tuesday, flight around noon so makes it tight to do it on that morning.
On my last visit in October heard a story of a person who did not change his fiscal rep, has not paid fiscal rep for some time but just goes into financas every April, picks up his tax bill and just pays it. His fiscal rep is throwing stroppys too but apparently he has been doing this for some time, with no problem.

EU citizens do not have to appoint a fiscal rep any more. However you will have to give your home address and an e.mail address and will receive notices from the Finanças on those in Portuguese.
It is not very clever leaving someone appointed as fiscal rep and then bypassing them by visiting the tax office directly. There are serious responsibilitites in acting as a fiscal rep for someone and either use a professional firm and pay or go it alone. I am not surprised the FR is not happy -. who would be?
Lagoa tax office will be closing down in the very nera future. We are heading towards a stage where all will be dealt with electronically anyway so visits to the tax office would be a rarity.

When I visited the tax office in Lagoa in October they supplied me with a printout which enabled me to pay the October tax via multibanco. They also removed the fiscal rep responsibilites from xxxx to myself, and also informed me that I was the only one whose name was on the tax bill. Oversight or careless but either way we did not remove mrs soap from FR. Which I intend to do now on 10th December.
Two things prompted my visit to the tax office. First was the cost of the FR for paying straightforward IMI tax twice a year. I don't rent, so no extra work involved there, and even it there were they were quite clear it was extra to do this work. Second they stopped sending me confirmation that tax was paid. I forwarded my April tax to them in March this year. They acknowledged receipt of same (my local bank also send out confirmation of delivery), but no tax paid receipt was forwarded by them in April. I emailed them in May stating that I would like a copy of the receipt either electronically or by post. Two days later I received the email showing the tax as paid. The receipt showed that they paid the tax in late May. I queried here before that if you paid your money over to your FR and they did not pass it on to the tax where you stood legally ie they went out of business/did a runner/just didn't pay the tax. I don't know the answer but I do know that I would prefer to have the payment of taxes in my own hands.

You have to get a "senha" or password from the Finanças to acces the site. They send that to your address and the you can confirm e-mail and other contacts.

Thanks Biffa but not finding it as easy as that. Visited Finanças on Monday to change Mrs Soap's address. When in the office I brought up the matter of the senha with a very nice official. But he was no real help, just confirmed what you have stated . Problem is: I apparently have a senha, but don't know it. in order to get a different senha I have to answer my secret question, (which is my favourite colour.) Naturally I have no idea to the anser of this question. In short - I can't have a new senha as I am already registered, I can't access my old senha as I don't know the favourite colour answer. Circles.

Why not try and answer the secret question as many times as it allows you with different colours. I imagine that it will tell you how many more tries you have as it does when you input an incorrect senha. If you stop before you exhaust the number of available tries you might be able to come back later and have another go. There can't be that many colours that you would have chosen as your favourite.

Had another pooch around the Finanças website earlier this evening and found an email address dscac-inf@at.gov.pt for 'general' enquiries, I sent them an email asking them for advice and they forwarded this email address for passwords portal-senhas@at.gov.pt, so I sent them a request to cancel my password and issue a new one and they replied almost immediately in English As you requested, we have now cancelled your password. You are now able to make a new register through the “NOVO UTILIZADOR” option, available on website.
I did this and shortly afterwards another email arrived with the same message as before asking me to confirm my email address but with a new code. Looking good, hopefully a new password will arrive in a week or so and I will be able confirm the email address and hopefully receive my imi bills by email next year. I think they are still very much in the infancy stage of sorting out tax affairs electronically but are quite helpful if you find the right section.
