EDP night time tarriff

Does anybody know anything about the EDP ceasing the cheaper night time tariff ?

I believe that this is part of the deregulation of electricty supplies and that it will cease when the new contracts some into force 1/01/13 ?

I spoke to EDP yesterday and was informed that I can stay on the Bi Horia tariff with my current EDP Servico Universal contract until the end of the year, If I change now to EDP Commercial there will only be a simple tariff of 0.138 cents per unit 24 hours a day, with a 2% discount if paid by DD and with electronic factura (emailed to me).

However, as the EDP tariffs for 2013 have not been released yet apart from the simple tariff, I was told that there will definitely be a Bi and Tri horia option, but as yet, no figures are available.

The guy I spoke to said that the best thing to do was to wait for the tariffs to be released, and then contact EDP Commercial to change my contract and take out one of the new options. I got the impression from him that all the new electricity suppliers are waiting to see what the other does first in terms of their rates for next year, and then they will release figures.

Obviously Portuguese businesses don't know how to operate in a free and competitive de-regulated market as they have always been used to a monopoly situation in the past.

My point is that they are all the same ,energy being a global industry and why do you think that it would/should be any different in Portugal ?

Most interesting Guys. However I was being sarcastic about previous posts by a certain someone who was very negative about the store here in Guia, who had posted about Electricity Costs.
As for me, I have been charged for three months full tariff when I am on dual. So officially complained and the bill has been suspended till they investigate, that was two months ago. Will keep you posted!

We had an old bi-horario meter go faulty so that no consumption was recorded at the cheap rate for over six months before we got the meter replaced - no apology or compensation, though! I assume that you haven't signed up to one of the new EDP Comercial tariffs, which don't allow bi-horario?

Me !! sarcastic about a store called Iceland in GUIA, there is no such place , there is one called Overseas though if that is who you meant :
But to be serious energy costs can only go one way and that is to continue to increase. Compared to other countries the rise will be higher in Portugal as it has vitually no domestic fossil fuel reserves, relies on imported oil and seasonal affected energy such as wind and hydro.
Portugal like the UK may just have to bite the nuclear bullet and build nuclear power stations but in an earthquake zone very unlikely
bi horia might help a little but the focus should be on using less if you want to keep your costs down.
I can see a surge in the sale of those stone washing tubs.
