have you chosen your electricity supplier?
have you chosen your electricity supplier?
Has anyone chosen their supplier in this liberalised market? Who and why did you choose them?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Re: have you chosen your electricity supplier?
We stayed with EDP in the end, although you have to set up new contracts with EDP Commercial rather than EDP Universal. Mark phoned all the other alternative suppliers and one spoke no English, others were offering 2 or 5% disocunts but only for 1 year, whereas EDP were offering a 2% discount always. The spoke very good English and phoned back when they said they would. So rightly or wrongly we stayed with the devil we knew.

What happens if you do nothing as most/many of us are not in Portugal for all or much of the time ?
Re: have you chosen your electricity supplier?
From what I understand, if you don't switch suppliers you will stay with EDP Universal but on a "temporary tariff" that is reviewed every 3 months and this will not be cheap.EMM wrote:What happens if you do nothing as most/many of us are not in Portugal for all or much of the time ?

Ma-Ja is correct. We found a simulator that shows the rate differences and will probably move to Iberdrola, the Spanish utility.
Here is the website for the simulator. http://www.erse.pt/pt/Simuladores/Pagin ... dores.aspx

Re: have you chosen your electricity supplier?
will EDP write to you to let you now that you are on a temporary contract or will they just let you carry on paying a higher tariff on the temp contract?(i would guess they willl just let you keep paying the temp contract) does anybody know how much more expensive the temp contract is as the price of electricity seems to be very expensive to start with
Re: have you chosen your electricity supplier?
I don't think that they will write to you as they have already sent out letters to offer you the alternative suppliers and within that letter it said about the temporary tariff if you did not switch supplier. With regards to how much higher the temporary tariff is I couldn't say, but you are right electricity has gone up in price, but that is mainly due to the fact the IVA has been increased from 6% to 23%.alf1956 wrote:will EDP write to you to let you now that you are on a temporary contract or will they just let you carry on paying a higher tariff on the temp contract?(i would guess they willl just let you keep paying the temp contract) does anybody know how much more expensive the temp contract is as the price of electricity seems to be very expensive to start with

Re: have you chosen your electricity supplier?
The increase in electricity is horrendous this year!!
Yes, the massive IVA hike, but also price rises, and a habit that EDP have always estimating alternate bills, and doing it at highest usage.
OK....that will even itself out.....but still unbelievably high.
