UK passport renewel advice

Post by jeremy »

I received the following from a friend, so be aware -

"Applying for Passport renewal I believed I was on the genuine website and went through a procedure and paid for checking and issuing of application, it was not until my wife came to renew hers too when we discovered we had both been hooked by a website - posing as the real thing with a name to mislead the gullible!!! We fell for it an paid handsomely for a service the IPS provide for free!!!!!

The moral of the story ( yes I know we are gullible) when it comes to applications to government services there are cleverly disguised websites purporting to be the real thing. Be really sure you have reached the right website and as a rule of thumb if it does not end with " .gov.uk" be on your guard for a scam."

There are 3 or 4 that come up in yellow (paid for top spot!) if you search on Google for "Passport Renewal" - none of them are .gov.uk - one does look dodgy by its address - http://www.passport.uk.com.

Take Jeremy's advice and only use http://www.direct.gov.uk. :)

Royal Liverpool - hardly Royal Lytham St. Annes though is it? :P

Alas, having checked out the comapny who scammed me on parking, Norton are not even aware of them. As said above, for passports, use .gov.uk - always.

Jeremy - what bait would that be? - you must tell us otherwise it will be an albatross on your back for ever - or a bogey on your chin as MC would have said :P

They do admit they are not 'official': We are not connected to or affiliated with the IPS or any other official Government body. We offer a review and submission service for United Kingdom passport applications for a small processing fee. You can apply independently and at no cost for this by visiting the official website. Please read our Terms of Service before using this website. But I do think they are kosher . . . but the Post Office do similar checks for a fiver (I think it's a fiver).
