Why are the posts timed at 2 hours before they are being made? Does the website clock need adjusting?

Alternatives to PT for call charges

Post by steve »

AFPOP have recently done a deal with GlobalTalk. Calls to the UK 8.9 cents a minute 24 hours a day and no minimum monthly usage charge. Bills are e-mailed out monthly and can be paid by multibanco or internet banking. Direct debit is promised later.

I signed up and was very impressed with the level of customer service.

AFPOP members will know this already but yet another reason for non members to consider joining

(If this appears twice it is because I thought I had sent it once but it did not appear!!)

Thanks Digger I did see this and I have joined Skype so that I can follow this up in the future.

From my past experience this type of coms is OK for limited use between mutually dedicated users but is not flexible enough for general family use. I am prepared to pay for the flexibility of the phone but I have not unnaturally been looking to cut costs. My last PT bill was 144 euros and it is calls to the UK which account for most of the cost.

Digger,

I have just noticed your post where you state that Portugal is BST, 1 hour ahead of us in the UK. When we came to cvo in June we never changed our watches from GMT as local time was the same. Have you since the beginning of June put your clocks forward? Sorry for the ignorance

….UK, Ireland & Portugal set their clock the same…GMT in the winter, BST [British Summer Time = GMT+1] in the summer.
Dee, when you were holidaying here in June you were living in a time-warp know as Danish time [tempo da Dinamarca] a biscuit [cookie]…

Sorry Digger, I feel quite the idiot. As soon as I read your post everything fell into place - everything apart from "Danish Time" :? Is this a joke? Or is it like a Twix!!

Last year I met an English couple who had been here on holiday for one week and had put their watches forward one hour on arrival. They only discovered their error when they turned up at Alto golf and tried to take our 10.30 slot having booked for 11.30.

When we expalined what they had done they did remark that their hotel restaurant was always empty when they turned up for meals.

When we came to the Algarve in June, we holidayed with friends who had been to Portugal before and acted like "experts" whenever Portugal or the Algarve came into conversation.

As we were about to land at Faro Airport, the pilot announced various details over the intercom regarding Portugal and mentioned that "local time was ..........", exactly the same as home! I turned to our "expert" friends only to see them coyly turning their watches back one hour
