Car Matriculation

Whilst chatting to my car matriculation man at the MOT centre in Porhes on Friday, I learnt that this year the rules have change for "classic cars". Used to be that a car first registered before Jan 1 1960, could be imported without paying any extortion tax. It has now been changed to any car fist registered more than 30 years ago i.e pre 1975. So if you into classic metal then you can bring over a nice motor and not have to pay.
Be nice to see a few old British sports cars with the roof down.

Bob T, I agree...
I once owned a TR-3....
Had those cut down doors....cool as can be.

But after awhile my elbows got sore.....
So I traded it in for a TR-4.

Was that before, or after, the British invented the oil leak?

The oil leak was surely invented by someone in texas. One of those nodding donkeys must have been leeking well before Henry Ford or Herr Daimler started thinking of motorizing horse drawn carts.

And as for big oil leaks what about the driver of the Exxon Valdez !.

Any way you never see a rusty sump (oil pan) or gearbox on an old British sports car..............................

I doubt it.....in Texas, the oil flows OUT of the ground, not ON to it.

I was a keen classic car fan in England and still have one of the monthly magazines delivered here. Unfortunately the Algarve seems to be very barren territory for classic cars. In July the roadshow comes down here and there is some impressive matal on display but local cars seem very few and far between. I have seen a Stag, a Spitfire, a couple of MGBs and a very nice Citrooen DS but the others I have noticed have been foreign visitors.

I know that there is an active classic car scene in Lisboa but is anyone aware of anything in the Algarve?

Yes ..as well as the ( Official) Classic car club ..there is the Algarve club..a small ring of very nice enthusiasts with some really beautiful cars..they have days out each month ...etc etc.......I will get more information and revert........And yes it has been 30 years for some time now to bring in a classic car (A car must be 30 years old not to pay Tax) I have already brought mine down here and in the process of matriculation.....about Euro 500...
