Internet problems

Hi,

I have the internet currently with PT.com and I have no problems when I am using the internet on my pc, however when my friends stay and use their own pc they have trouble connecting with the internet. I have had the hub reset and tested by the company but they can't find anything wrong with it. My son tried it on his pc but it wouldn't work but on my one it did!!! Can anyone help with any suggestions or help.

I had a similar experience and found I could only connect to the router via an ethernet cable. I suspect it was down to the wireless security settings on the router. Security can be set to only accept MAC addresses that are approved. I'd try it with a cable first and if that works, it is most probably a wireless issue.

i have internet with pt & it keeps losing the connection which is very annoying as i listen to the radio through the internet&you keep having to refresh it to get the connection back

Just turn it off, count to 5 and turn it back on again. If it was the router that had dropped out, it wouldn't work at all and I understand it is ok with your computer.

Still no joy, I have had to call out the engineer who is now going to charge me 15 euros to come out and additional costs if they need to replace!! I wonder why we have to pay the monthly rental on the hub if it doesn't work properly!!

Yes, its still no good. I have called out the engineer now so I will see what he says. It works fine with my pc but on anyone else's it doesn't work. Strange isn't it.

There are several inputs to your wi-fi router. It could be that you are on the one that only gives one output at a time. you can check this by switching off you laptop, and seeing if another will log on. If that's the case shift your input down to....I think it's number 1.

There is a guy in the internet cafe opposite Happys, he is very friendly and helpful. Ask him.

Are the wireless adapters of the PCs that don't work set to "obtain an IP address automatically" and "obtain DNS server address automatically"? If not, they could be on the wrong subnet.

If your router works with one wireless connection, then I would say there's not much wrong with it apart from the settings. If you've called out the engineer then hopefully he will fix it but I suspect the security settings.

Do you have a secure network, if so have your friends logged in using the access key, if not it is worth a try.
