Inverter air conditioning units
We want to replace a bedroom aircon unit and have been quoted for a standard one and an inverter one. The inverter is 30% more but is supposed to be a lot more efficient, especially if it will be used as a heater as well. Anyone any advice on these things please?

Hi,
Yes Inverters are much better, A rated and much quieter.

Just instructed Mr Jacob from Lagoa to install Sharp Inverter replacement unit for €700 inc IVA + 2 hours labour. I think it's a fair price?

Re: Inverter air conditioning units
depends on the usage - if its only 3-4 mths of the year, something like a 12000BTU/hr jocel for ~ €245-65 from leroy merlin and I can get them installed by a local guy - Luis - for €150 total, so approx 400 seems a better deal than 700 + 2hrs labour (how much/hr?) even if you are supposedly saving 30%. The only thing an inverter does is slow the unit down when it is near op temp instead of full on/off. I'd like to see the figures to prove it

With respect, you can't compare Jocel with Sharp plus Iam sure the sharp unit is more efficient and has more features, plus Iam sure the sharp will out live the Jocel.

That sounds a wee bit steep to me.widge wrote:Just instructed Mr Jacob from Lagoa to install Sharp Inverter replacement unit for €700 inc IVA + 2 hours labour. I think it's a fair price?
We bought 3 Samsung inverter types, installed, for about 1700 euros.

If you go to Leroy they have a large display on the wall which shows the best one to get for your particualr use - there are several classifications including ones with inverters - gives running costs etc. No question that if I was living there and using it a lot I would go for a better quality than a Jocel. but I still wouldnt pay €700
