where is that place geoff&what food do they do&what are the prices like
O Baradas is on the way to Silves ; cross over the A22 and it's on the left, but you need to drop off to the right ( sign posted Palmeira , I think ) and then go left under the dual carriageway. Turn right at T junction, and its about 300 yards on your left.
Expensive fish specials as are some wines, but they do an excellent hot prawn starter for about 7 € and a deliciuous lamb steak with honey source for about 15€ : house wine is good at c12€......we were 90€ for 3 last time we went.
Lovely gardens with tables under some trees....or cosy dining room in winter.

O Barradas is a good choice. A little further afield and even better are Canico Restaurant at praia da vau. Or Sao Roque at Lagos.

O Barradas on the Old Silves Road is my fav for special occasions, Luis and Andrea will really look after you, we've had the best times there over the years, food wine and ambiance is second to none.

My personal menu favourite is the lamb fillet followed by a strawberry flambe - which is to die for ! but the menu is very varied and everything is fresh and of high standard.

They have a website which I think is www.obarradas.com. Hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

have not tried any of the above apart from L'Orange, my favourites for a special meal would be Brassarie Marinha or o'leao in Porches, maybe even Rui's in Silves if you like seafood.

I agree about Reis de Prais.....good for the view, you pay alot for that....but overated in other directions. Mainly fish, and over priced.

My preferences :

If you want fine dining, and all the brew-ha-ha that goes with it....Pimenta Preta.
Excellent food in Carvoeiro itself....Maxims.
l'Orange has consistantly disappointed. Elle&Ella is many peoples consistant favourite.
Very good expensive Italian and all the trimmings? Definately La Bella Vita, Clube Atlantico

Further out.....

O Barrada on the Silves old road. Probably my favourite, but it is run close by Porches Velo, in Porches.

The bottom line?? We are all different, we all have our favourites.
Enjoy discovering yours

My local favourite has always been Poco Partido - (otherwise known as Antonios). The prawns or mussels, followed by the generous sized Chateabriand and a bottle of Monte Velha - you wont need a dessert! under €50 for two

Rei das Praias we went there on the 1st August to celebrate our 25th anniversary, it was absolutely brilliant. There's plenty of choice for non-fish eaters & the price is not unreasonable for the location, our local beach restaurant at Gale beach charges €10 - €20 more per kilo for their fish, 6 of us ate loads, drank loads & the bill wasn't extortinate. We've been using this restaurant for about 25 years so it seemed the right place to be. :D

Hi Blue

We did the same thing last year, celebrated our 25th at Rais de Prais.
Like you, I don't feel it is overpriced, given the fabulous food (not all fish) and location. Plus the waiters and Luis always make you feel special.

Completely agree, we love Rei das Praias and we celebrated our 20 th wedding anniversary there in June. The service and location are superb and to date we have always enjoyed a great meal. Our daughters who are not keen on fish always have more than enough choice from the menu. It's superb in my view
