Car hire from Faro?

Hi all,

I'm looking to rent a car from Faro airport for a family of 4 for two weeks from 19th Aug. The quotes i'm getting online seem to be very high. Can anyone recommend a hire company please?

Get a quote from Algarvedriver using the link at the top of the page. It creates revenue for this website. Hire cars are in short supply during the busiest months and that's probably whey the prices seem high.

I refer to my previous posting 'Our holiday' dated 24 July re Guerin Car Rental. Our broker in the UK can be found at www.carhire3000.com. Now that we are aware that you have options as to the usage of the microchip fitted to the vehicle to register journeys on the A22, we would use them again.

Please excuse my ignorance Bruce, but is the full petrol tank scam? Surely it is easier to collect a car with a full tank and return with a full tank ! Rather than collect with a third, try and return with a third but usually more gifting the rental company your petrol !?! Or am I missing the point?

The fuel tank scam,

1) Some companies charge you more for fuel than the actual car will hold

2) You pay for a full tank even if you do not use a full tank returning it half full or more. We have heard of some renters draining their tanks into a friends vehicle so as to return a virtually empty car.
This stops the car company only paying for a half full tank yet still scamming the cost of a full one ( their figures ) from the next renter.

We will not use any of the companies who attempt this scam.

gold car rental operate the full tank scam where as you take the hire car out with a full tank that they charge you for usually at an inflated price&even if you only use 1/3 of a tank you dont get any refund,i have taken out the petrol twice that i didnt use & gave it away to my firends in carvoeiro rather than let them robbing *astards have it!i have used them twice once by choice&one by default through a booking agent&will never ever use them again

Well, just under three weeks until we hit the Algarve sunshine and pick up our AlgarveDriver car at the airport. Apart from the fact that it benefits this website to use them, I was attracted by their 'return the car with the same fuel level as pick up' and no hidden charges for the tolls. If you don't use the A22 you don't pay anything. I have no problem with the N125 and much of our driving is inland anyway. AlgarveDriver also advise drivers to take out personal annual 'excess' insurance rather than pay AGs daily charge of €7 to take out super CDW (which won't include glass, tyres, underside, etc.). How many companies would do that?
I followed their advice and took out worldwide insurance excess cover for 12 months which does include glass, etc. This cover cost me just £55. We go to Florida in November and will be back in the Algarve next May, so I will be saving quite a few quid on these three trips. Especially on the Alamo hire in Florida which would have cost around $330 for three weeks of super CDW.
This is my first time picking up at Faro airport rather than booking a transfer and thanks to positive vibes on this site I feel quite relaxed about it.
