You might find the heat a bit of a problem so start out early in the morning for the coolest time. There are a few runners and clubs who would probably be happy to have you join them while you are there. There is also a very good cycle route which is also good for runners. There are a couple of gyms in Lagoa (one near the large roundabout at the west side of Lagoa on the N125 and the other opposite the Faticil.) which are air conditioned that might be an option if you find the heat too much, they charge by the day or for 10 visits at a reduced price. Otherwise the area around Carvoeiro is quiet hilly if you used the road system around Lagoa (get a good map and plot your run) it will be more level. Good luck in your half marathon, which one are you doing?

A lot of places have fitness trails. There's a nice one at http://www.carvoeiro.com/Guide/fontes/ about a 10 min drive. There's also one by the river in Silves.

Hi Barry
The Algarve Hash House Harriers would be delighted to have you join them : monday evenings at 6pm ( sunday at 2pm in winter) , 5€ to include all beer, water and supper. Runs will be about 2 hours , though most are walkers these days! One of the guys who runs it did the London Marathon last year in an excellent time.
Look at :
http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set= ... 951886725/
or PM me and I can send you email address of the organisers.
(Just mention Anthrax recommended you, if you do go!)

Failing that , a run along the coast road to Ferraguedo , on to Estombar, and loop back via Lagoa should be good , though watch out for traffic, and either go early (0700) or after 6pm , with plenty of water, of course!

If you like hills, run through Carvoeiro towards Cavalho, passed Club Atlantico. It's about a six mile round trip from the top of Estrada do Farol, but quite challenging due to the inclines and length of a couple of the hills. My wife and I are running the Royal Parks Half Marathon in October, on behalf of The Prostate Cancer Charity, so we will use this route, as well as some longer but flatter ones!

Hi Anthrax

We are hashers currently on a campsite near Albufeira and looking for a local hash to run with. I have seen posts mentioning Sylvia as a contact. Can you give me an email address or website to look for dates and times of future hashes. We are in the area for several weeks and would love to join the local hash. Well ,only me at the moment as hubby is still recovering from snapped Achilles tendon but who may enjoy a walk!

All these secret coded messages. I reckon there is a spy ring at work here. Should I notify MI5 or the Portuguese police?

......well, if you did, you wouldn't be the first!....hashtrails are usually laid with flour and the GRN were alerted about " suspicious white powder" on at least one occasion....in fact , my hashname was as a result of posters that a dog walker put up after seeing my trail!
Anyway, come & find out about hashing when you are over next, am sure you will enjoy it!
