We went up to Algarve shopping but couldn't be bothered going into Icelands, just ended up getting our food at Contennte, Intermarche' and the local market in CVO, just off resturant hill where you get the veg, fish and butchers. We found that pretty good price wise and a fewof our Euros stayed local Have not shopped at Icelands since moving to Holland 11 years ago so really don't miss it at all now.

Shopping in Dubai no longer an option Roy. We are now in Kuala Lumpur for the next couple of years or so. How are you fixed for spicy noodles?

Can't see the point of going shopping in Portugal for cornflakes and baked beans anyway!

I can't see the point of people taking such snobby and narrow minded attitudes. If you live here permanently and want some cornflakes and baked beans occasionally, so what. Foreigners living permanently in the UK no doubt seek out foods from their homeland to supplement the local fare. I wouldn't die if I never had another cup of Horlicks at night but life for me is more pleasant with it.Thanks to Iceland I can now get this without having to organise a deivery from Asda.

not sure why people make a thing a baout shopping at certain places, it's a matter of choice and who really cares anyway. There is no such thing as typical Portugues, typical Spanish, typical this, typical that, food types and eating habbits are different but we eat the same stuff which is basically, meat, fish, corn, herbs, spices etc it all comes down to the basic stuff just presented differently. Having mentioned cornflakes I'm going to make chocolate cornflakes cakes!, we get them here too in Holland lol! :D

We are not the only ones. In the last day or so I have driven past at least 4 dedicated Polish/Latvian/Lithuanian mini markets in Lincoln. They also like a bit of home comfort! As for us the only thing we buy in Iceland is the odd tub of fresh cream when we are passing.

I bet that there were not queues outside when they opened, or people drove 50K to get there.
Or that shoppers did not react with cries of " its just like home !! " or " they have got chicken Kiev ".
We are Brits are a funny race that must provide hours of harmless amusement to the nationals of those countries we chose to live or visit.

As Roy suggested many items stocked in Iceland are now cheaper in the local supermarkets
Intermarche had a special offer on Weetabix ( No English labels so packaged for the local market ). certainly cheaper than the English packs in Iceland.
All manufactured in the UK ???.

I only use Icelend if we happen to need to go to Leroy, Makro, shopping centre look round - a special trip - driving 34km (return) negates any savings you may get at Iceland.

However, when we do go Vintage Cheddar, smoked bacon in freezer packs, Pizzas, PORK PIES, breakfast teacakes, onion rings are our main items. You have difficulty in getting these anywhere else at the price.

I shall do a check next week when we arrive, as I have to get some fence posts from Leroy.

The only thing I bought in Iceland that I really needed and had looked for for ages, was tamarind paste. The fruit pastilles and cream egg were a treat  Mmmmmmmm cadburys cream egg :!: :!:
