Beware Iceland pricing !!

In Iceland yesterday I noticed that their prices have shot up on many items to the point now where it may be cheaper to shop at Intermarche or Apelonia.

Two glaring examples;

Kellogs Corn Flakes - special offer at Iceland 750 gms for € 7.07
Intermarche 500 gms for € 2.37 working out at a price for 750 gms. of € 3.55 (i.e. half the price)

Heinz beans in Iceland €0.90 per tin or special offer of 3 for € 5.50 (work that one out for yourselves )

Having said that, if you look around their are some things cheaper and some things which are not available elsewhere.

The moral of my tale is to take the advice of your local optometrist and keep your eyes open and wear the correct spectacles to check their prices

With the fall in the Euro and rise in other costs their prices are bound to rise plus we are coming up to the holiday season where maybe they think that " Brits " on holiday recognising a familiar name will shop there by default and not realise that it pays to shop around.

We did notice in Overseas ( yes we do go in there to look around ) that some of the beans on offer came from a multiple pack complete with label NOT TO BE SOLD Seperately

We always check the flyers from Intermarche and the other stores and take advantage of the real bargains on offer sometimes.

with you all the way there, last 3 times of going there just for my fix they haven't had them

My point was that some things are cheaper in Intermarche, Continente, Pingo Doce and to beware of the 'special' multiple packs.
Plenty of pork pies, small and large, yesterday but no fresh cornish pasties. A new line is caribbean style patties - delicious !!

When I was out in December I visited Iceland and had a fairly good look around. Did notice that Kelloggs cornflakes were imported from UK, which made absolutely no sense to me as the Kelloggs cornflakes from Spain are equally as good ( I would imagine Kelloggs have good quality control in all their factories), can't recall the price.

My 'fix' from Iceland is Haywards baby beetroot and silverskin onions.

chaps, this is all slightly disturbing, the thought of folk wandering around supermarket shelves checking the price of a box of corn flakes and whether or not a tin of beans can be sold on it's own or not has plumbed new depths on here for me,

can I suggest that you all arrange to meet up there,( and this may be old fashioned), but let your wives go in & sort out the shopping, they're much better at it than us, and you guys could all have a nice game of dominoes in the coffee shop to while away the time

Its because they are retired they have to fill their time, my husband is the same .

my excuse is it was just me on my own, out for a nosey to report to better half on what Iceland was like. I think Continte is much better, but if you want certain products then Iceland is ok.

You have to import them from Iceland!

Have you tried Dubai - the beluga and foie gras (banned now in U.S) were cheap on our last visit.
