Martin took offence at those of us who took a more positive atitude to life in the Algarve than he does and he then took his bat and ball home.
Of course such crimes are disturbing.
From other reports these crimes are the work of one or two gangs ( not Portuguese ) .
To keep such reports in proportion , " official figures " recently reported in the Portugal News , Algarve Resident and Algarve Daily News
indicate that levels of " serious crime " have fallen.
If you are a victim such figures are meaningless but we should avoid becoming paranoid.
We should all take the same precautions in Portugal we would anywhere else.

Does it make any difference what the nationality of the perpetrators are ?
The crimes are happening in Portugal that is what the significance is.
I think Martin posted some very useful information on the forum and made visitiors aware of what was going on.

95% of Martins posts had a negative and sometimes inaccurate slant on them. He is obviously unhappy with his life in Portugal.
Such bias does not make him a reliable or informative scource of information.
You will see that where he still posts his threads are more often than not ignored.
There is more crime in our west country resort than in all of the Algarve.

Why would anyone think that the Algarve is crime free or not affected by the problems that affect society today.

Who thinks the Algarve is crime free ?

Good grief if you have that amount of crime in one west country resort then I am thankful that I live in the north west :)

As EMM is a legend on this site we must report
All things positive, bet he only purchases happy news papers,
He goes through each post , searches for the negatives
And responds with his sad snide remarks,
The forum is there to inform people of both
The good and not so great things about life in the Algarve.
Lets wait for the usual response .....:.

I have no problem when the reports are accurate and unbiased, but as with your report about the state of the airport I will always respond.
We were there when the storm hit and 2 days later when the airport was operating almost as usual apart from the temporay arrivals.
Some forget that if the storm has hit a UK airport the " elf and safety " idiots would have probably shut it down for a couple of months.
ANA had flights operating within 4 hours.
I do report matters of concern as with the potential problems with the access to the new P4 in busy periods.
We approach our time in Portugal realising that we are NOT in the UK, that things are done differently and standards are not the same.
We are not looking for England or Ireland " in the sun ".

Ditzy , its not Midsomer.

Now that is a place being the legal and police HQ during the Glastonbury festival.
We met a member of a legal firm who were the duty solicitors during one of the festivals.
Drive by shootings, threatening calls from the west indies ( dru related crimes ), drug deaths. muggings etc etc. all part of the varied tapestry of life in rural Somerset.

I suppose when anybody goes on holiday, they expect a crime-free safe holiday and leave all the worries of those things behind. When it happen on a holiday resort it is shocking to the victim and appals those who read about it.

While it may be unpalatable reading about vicious crime, such as the ones, Martin reported, it does serve as an important reminder to keep safe. as warm sun, pleasant scenery and a relaxed atmosphere is no guarantee to safety especially when you can easily let your guard down.
