ipad micro sim pay as you go

Has anyone bought one for a Portuguese network, I have used mobile broadband dongles for my laptop to great effect, now I have been given an ipad as a gift, looking for best deal when away.
I'm on 3 at home and the roaming charges are £1.29 per mb which is a bit pricey. I know I can use wifi but like to have access when not in wifi zones!!
Any ideas/tips will be greatly appreciated.
