Sorry, but have to agree with Bruce.... nothing to do with 'sensationalism'. This will be our 6th year, and I am already stressed out worrying about the blasted tolls. Again, do not have a problem with paying them, but this whole fiasco of payment is absurd. Am awaiting the next update, was it the 1st April? Very apt if so! I would like to think that by then there will be some clarification from the hire car companies (Steen we're with you) and that we will have better clarification as to how to pay, in particular the return to the airport tolls. One of the reasons that Carvoeiro has appealed to us is the easy transfer from Faro to the village. I do not intend to spend unncessary time sitting in traffic (N125), or queuing in post offices etc. We come away on holiday to relax & de-stress, don't want to be worrying about how much money I owe, or if I'm going be fined upon my return. Fingers crossed.

ron5000 it was not a sensationalist remark it was my opinion.
I am not in any way against paying the tolls and realise that the government have to find ways to generate income, what I do disagree with is the way the payment of toll charges is being implemented.
Do you honestly think that all holidaymakers will be happy to queue and then be told they owe toll charges for the previous users of the hire car ? I am sure word will spread and many will not even bother to go and pay thus leaving the burden on the honest person that does go and pay.
Thank you for reminding me that the motorway was not there 15 years ago, neither was the complicated system of toll charges.

But Sue, unlike the majority of forum members here that visit CVO ,you get generous discounts on air travel, you lovely lucky lady you that is why you are very fortunate to travel so extensively! Surely those costs saved would compensate the inconvenience that you may encounter!

If you are not going to CVO this year it would be a huge shame.

Well I take it back. I've been advocating using the 125 instead of the A22 but after today, I'd say "at your peril"! I take constant flack because I like to give us plenty of time to get to the airport but it saved us today. A simple stretch of road, with a 100m under temporary traffic lights, took us the best part of an hour to get through. There may have been another situation, as a fire engine had to barge its way through.

I have previously crossed swords with Ron5000 on this issue. I simply cannot understand why the Portuguese authorities (whoever they may be) can think that is is reasonable to bring in a system which makes it almost impossible for tourists to pay for their toll system. Why should we be expected to pay for someone else's toll because the system cannot cope.This must be illegal under European law. Like many on this forum I have no objection to paying the tolls - just make it simple to do so. My sister-in-law and her family are due to use our apartment this summer.If this is not sorted I doubt if they will be back. There are other destinations with less hassle.

I agree whole heartedly that it is not we won't pay the toll, but make it easy. To suggest just because there was no motorway previously and did not stop people coming back, seems just as ridiculous as the current set up for paying the tolls. I doubt there was as many cars/tourists on the road 10+ years ago either. It is a worry that people without their own place may be so fed up with the toll system and choose another destination. I have a place and will have to lump it, but I come to Carvoeiro for R & R. In the high season months there will be more traffic, so you either sit in traffic jams on the 125 or risk going on the motorway and having a fine. Either way unless they get it sorted it may be too unpalatable for some tourists which ultimately will lead to loss of revenue.

It may be more useful if we closed this topic and continued any discussion in this newer topic on the Tolls, where Steen has helpfully given some updated information.

It seems that things are changing - hopefully in time for the Summer !
