I have been to Overseas ( once ) and did see Portuguese customers pick up some if the frozen items and actually laugh and who could blame them

I have several Portuguese friends who were very pleased to see Iceland open, and who go now and again for certain items, as many of us expat residents do.

Thank goodness we're not all narrow minded and some of us are able to see past all the lazy, clichéd stereotypes

If you went into a UK Iceland store and picked up a frozen pizza with the cooking instructions in every language but English - how long would it take for the trading standards people put a stop to them selling it?

They probably wouldn't close them down - at the first 'offence' but they would certainly take issue with the absence of English instructions. That, in part is what's happened here.

Undoubtedly Iceland has ruffled a few feathers and its payback time - especially if two agencies 'raided' them. On the few occasions we have been there we have seen as many Portuguese as Brits - all with varying levels of purchases - which proves, to me that they are fulfilling a need.

If I was to make an observation - I would urge them to find a way to remove the Sterling price as it doesn't compute with the published exchange rate. I realise there is a VAT differential - that does not compute either. I calculate an average exchange rate, according to the price charged to be €1.48 - if only

Lets please get it right, its NOT Iceland ( As in the UK ) but Overseas SA an Brit owned Spanish company that sells products from various UK suppliers incl Iceland.
As the Owners of Overseas have past connections with the original owners ( and current board of Iceland ) they have an arrangement to use the name in their promotion

Were this store owned by an established UK PlC rather than this arrival from the Costas maybe these problems would not have happened.

I only have been once in one of the UK branches in Tooting and a right depressing shop and slimepit of an area that was!
