Through Steen is the best option. IF you get a taxi down to CVO and hire the car in town ,it will save all that damn inconvenient dropping off at the airport on the return jourmey as that is stressful as it is, time wise etc.

Please explain James. Why do you think Steen is the best option & how do you get to & from the airport if you collect the car in Carvoeiro ?

This has been covered in other threads but:

Most people who use Steen admit it tends to be hassle free.
Regular users can earn points towards a free rental. (I had 11 days in a Group C car for €25 over Xmas)
You are helping to support this siteSteen will try and price match
If there's a problem, you have direct access to Steen via cvo.com. I've found he responds within 24 hours, often much less.
The fuel return policy is fair.
Returning cars is hassle free.

For 11 days in a Ford Fiesta 5 door with aircon from 27th Feb to 9th March Algarve Driver charge €120.14 + €77 excess insurance cover = €197.14

For 11 days in a Ford Fiesta 2 door without aircon from 27th Feb to 9th March Drive4Fun charge €80 excess insurance cover included.

Ok it's a bit apples & pears & no doubt the small print differs between insurance clauses but the headline price difference is enormous. I'm sure there is a sensible & reasonable explanation but if you have to make a choice on the basis of value for money as presented on the web sites ................?????

For 11 days in a Ford Fiesta 2 door without aircon from 27th Feb to 9th March Drive4Fun charge €80 excess insurance cover included.

Ok it's a bit apples & pears & no doubt the small print differs between insurance clauses but the headline price difference is enormous. I'm sure there is a sensible & reasonable explanation but if you have to make a choice on the basis of value for money as presented on the web sites ................?????

I am not sure how you got to that result? The group C 5-door Fiesta with A/C cost 94,29 euro with cash discount for those dates, if you continue the quote you'll see excess insurance for a full year can be bought for just 49£ (this even include damage to wheels and tires, glass, keys and locks.) http://www.algarvedriver.com/build_quote.php?cg=3

I have annual excess insurance. Like I said, if you send details of better offers to Steen, then he will look at it. I think my point was more about the service, like not being told there are no cars when you arrive and being clobbered for fuel.

Apologies Steen the with the typo I transposed €102.14 to €120.14 increasing your price by €18.00, so it should read €179.14 versus €80.00.

I guess people can make up their own minds about paying cash or annual insurance - both prices are based on credit card & no excess.

I try the best I can to get fair prices but it is just not possible to advertise the lowest price all the time, which is why we propose to match prices and conditions - those who advertise very low prices all the time makes their money differently with the same customers and change their business name from time to other; I believe in an honest approach and return customers

Looking for a better quote for those dates, it is possible to find a VW Polo 5 door, with air-con, for £45.34 (no insurance excess). I accept that wheels and tires, glass, keys and locks would not be covered, but if the £49 annual insurance was also taken, that would still only come to £94.34.

Well said Steen, we use algarvedriver all the time, good prices always a good car waiting for us at the
airport never a problem and when we had to cancel once at short notice it was sorted out quickly

Widge if you do a google for economycarrentals the prices are similar to what the other poster has quoted, (maybe it could be the same company the poster is talking about) It does say no excess insurance but you need to read into the terms & conditions very carefully. I have also heard of folks hiring through this agency and getting a car on arrival from Goldcar which has been discussed on the forum previously about them charging for a full tank of petrol on arrival & then bring back empty. This to me is a no no as you are on a loser from the start, not many people are successful at taking their cars back with an empty tank are they. I would sooner hire a car with the fuel policy of bring back with same amount of fuel as was in the tank on picking car up.

having used Travel Rent until NOW they had the policy of bring back the car with the sane amount of petrol as collection. Now that is all well and good but you try and not do yourself out of euros. One occasion my husband got back into the car 5 times to try and get sufficient fuel. On this occasion however the fuel gauge broke because it did not stop filling up until it cut out so probably cost us €20 or more than it need have done. I wished everyone had to return it full.
