If a local Portuguese citizen imports a foreign car he or she is liable for the same extortionate import taxes. The only way to import your own car free of tax is to qualify under the change of residence concession, the rules for which have been outlined above.

I wanted to import a classic Jaguar XJS - 1990 reg - value in uk even in its concourse conditon is ~around £10000. It was going to cost €15000 to have it matriculated!!!
