Attack in Messines
Re: Attack in Messines
Perhaps if Martin was more accurate in his postings, ie " Failed attempted robbery on A2 motorway near Messines " and left off his usual dig at anything to do with Portugal or Portuguese he would get a more sympathetic reaction.
We take the same precautions here as in the UK, no more or no less.

That is rich coming from you EMM - you do exactly the same thing with anything to do with the UK!EMM wrote:Perhaps if Martin was more accurate in his postings, ie " Failed attempted robbery on A2 motorway near Messines " and left off his usual dig at anything to do with Portugal or Portuguese he would get a more sympathetic reaction.

Re: Attack in Messines
If you mean do I live in a UK or PT bubble then you are right, neither is perfect by a long way.
Re: Attack in Messines
Oh come on, 'bom meus amigos' - please don't 'have a go' at each other - I'm sure Martin meant well - please take his comments the way I'm sure they were meant; (and in this current financial climate, we all need each others help, surely!)
So, 2012 had better be better than 2011 - (for me, that won't be difficult!), but we DO need to look out for each other, in our lovely place by the sea, don't you think?
(Not that you'll be really interested, but we've just come back from eleven lovely days in Carvoeiro, yesterday - and I'm now bl++dy freezing!)
Oh well...... I hope you have a nice time in the weeks ahead.....and remember, what did 'Bill and Ted' say to each other? "Be EXCELLENT to each other!"
Best wishes
IOM Nigel.

Don't blame the messenger !!!
Martin reports many items which we would otherwise not know and should be appreciated for it. The fact that some of you don't like to have the truth posted is your problem and if the item in question here was deemed worthy of report on Portuguese TV then surely Martin has every right to report it here.
Today Eurosport reported the following
http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/13012012/ ... ports.html
It just shows that rich footballers are easy targets anywhere in the world - including Portugal
Come back Martin and ignore the jibes.

I agree with cereza, I would prefer to know what's happening good or bad than be oblivious to it, Knowledge is always better than ignorance.cereza wrote:Don't blame the messenger !!!

Re: Attack in Messines
another attack on a security van; a retired UK Policeman attacked & beaten unconscious in Lagos;
come back Martin, we need to be hearing about these things

Re: Attack in Messines
WHY !!! do you trawl through every inch of the UK newspapers or listen to every minute of the News on TV or radio.
If you did the level of crime you found compared to the algarve would probably drive you insane in a few days.
These things happen, sadly its part of life today.
Why is the nationality of the victim important, would it be any less of a crime or newsworthy if he was Portuguese.

Re: Attack in Messines
EMM was you an ostrich in a previous life?
Re: Attack in Messines
No I am just not paranoid about things I can do nothing about.
Sh*T happens, we just have to live with it.
On our local news in the west tonight, Parts of one town evacuated due to explosive threat, petrol tanker rams house, in the national news, Child Murder witchcraft trial , so things also happen in the Algarve, So what !!

Re: Attack in Messines
Maybe some of us like to know what is happening in our chosen holiday destination!
Do we know what happens in other parts of Portugal? probably not as it is only the Algarve we are interested in.

Witchcraft trial, that sounds interesting
Martin, if you are reading this, a lot more people want to see you back than to see you go. Come back please.

Re: Attack in Messines
I know that it is safer than any friday night in the average English town , I don,t delude myself into thinking that it is a crime free idyll.
I am amazed at the expectations of some who obviously think that the Algarve should be crime free !!.
That is being an ostrich.
PS SOME GOOD NEWS FOR A CHANGE ( unreported by the usual suspects ) in this weeks Algarve Resident www.algarveresident.com
