£1 = € 1.20
£1 = € 1.20
Could the demise of the euro be the life-line we have been waiting for? - today £ at 1.20 for the first time in ages.
Prices of EMM's rubbish food in Iceland now seem even better value

Yes, but where can us mere mortals actually BUY Euros at that rate ?
FX exchange are offering to sell GBP at 1.216 EUR but buying GBP at approx 1.187 (still good)
Roy, its like your waistline. There is a comfortable spread !

Cheeky - my waistline is the same as last week.
I use Premier FX - www.premfx.com - telephone 289 358 511, ask for Peter Rexstrew and say I recommended you.

Re: £1 = € 1.20
Payng in a sterling cheque at my local Portuguese bank gets close to the official bank rate and as a regular customer I can get immediate access to the money but have to pay a small charge if I want it before 7 days after depositing the cheque.
Although I am normally pleased to see the sterling rate go up it is not so good at this time of the yerar since the prevailing rate at 31 December will be used to calculate the euro value of my sterling pensions for IRS purposes and a better exchange rate means more euros to tax.

Roy FX 101, as the Euro falls so the price of imported goods from out side of the EU( Icelands ) will increase.
Take advantage of the current priced stock it will have to increase if the Euros keeps falling.

Very true, their website explains how they cost products.EMM wrote:Roy FX 101, as the Euro falls so the price of imported goods from out side of the EU( Icelands ) will increase.

However if you compare the amount an average Brit spends in Iceland compared to all other expenditure in Portugal I do not think this will be a problem.

Well buy local food, save some money, and support the Portuguese economy.......simplesEMM wrote:Roy FX 101, as the Euro falls so the price of imported goods from out side of the EU( Icelands ) will increase.

As JayLay says, we do spend most of our grocery money in local shops, but it is nice to occasionally have a bit more choice -particularly their party snack packs are very useful.

The over-the-counter rate at Santander Totta is close to the offical rate - you pay a fixed charge of ~ €7 for any amount - so for anything more than a couple of hundred £ thats damn cheap.
Re: £1 = € 1.20
Hope everyone who needed to stocked up with Euros, the markets are now suggesting that the £ will see further declines due to the underperforming UK economy and return of confidence in the Euro as it has been oversold.

Not seeing any evidence of that at the moment - and soon Sarkozy will make another gaffe or the Greeks will threaten to default or the Germans will start complaining about subsidising all of the Eurozone countries etc and the pound will slowly move upwards.EMM wrote:Hope everyone who needed to stocked up with Euros, the markets are now suggesting that the £ will see further declines due to the underperforming UK economy and return of confidence in the Euro as it has been oversold.

I agree Rich, you can secure long term exchange close to 1.19 at the moment for a decent chunk...forecast is to hover around this level during 2012...dare I say cheap beer!
