Attack in Messines

Post by martin »

seems on the road from Lisbon another attack took place, this time trying to stop a vehicle with cash (?)..details see below. Am I am the only one to wonder how someone knows that a vehicle carries cash at that time of night and its journey???

No doubt our great Police force hard at work eg "The case of the Missing Mudflap"...will be busy solving this one, or perhaps they are too occupied protecting the A22 cameras and gantries

see here

This was on PT TV news last night and appeared to be a less dramatic report than that from the "Algarve Daily New .
No Martin has locked himself indoors in an effort to protect hinself from the crmewave that is sweeping through the Algarve and affecting all of us in our daily lives.????

Happy ( not sure if that is the right word ) New Year Martin and lets hope that 2012 provides you with as much gloom and doom to report as this year :D :D :D :D

I believe that taking into account the number of Algarve ATM machines that have been ripped out plus the tons of copper wire stolen from PT & EDP lines plus cash in transit snatches and serious attempts we can safely say that we DO have a major crime wave in action which the security forces are simply ill prepared to deal with. It could be an interesting New Year! Batten down the hatches.

Martin, you should know that it's an important function of this forum to attract gullible holidaymakers and property investors to the Algarve and to paint a picture of a crime free nirvana where you can leave your doors and windows open all day, leave your engine running whilst shopping in Intermarche and leave your jewellery in your sunhat whilst enjoying a refreshing dip in the sea.
So could I ask you to refrain from posting this type of report on here please, at least until I've sold my villa
thank you.

Judging by the number of fast moving police cars with flashing lights on the 125 at 7.30am this morning, something was happening?

That's not nice. Doomonger or not, these crimes are ACTUALLY happening, regardless of the newspapers making a major drama out of it. It will possibly only hit home to the few who post negative comments on Martin's postings when some sort of crime personally happens to them, just keep your fingers crossed, you never know.

Crime is on the increase almost everywhere Portugal is no exception and maybe those of us who split our time between the Algarve and the UK have become a bit blase about it.
These events that attract such notice in the Algarve are common place everyday events in the UK that sadly now attract little press attention.
No amount of publicity will reduce crime or the causes of crime . The police in Portugal have as little chance of eliminating crime as those in the UK or in any other country.

It's a shame if Martin has been driven away. I'll admit that his posts can be a bit negative but he has provided us with a lot of good information in the past.

Unfortunately some people are only interested in getting their holiday rentals in so they hate anyone posting anything negative.
I can't believe that Martin is so sensitive he's going to let a couple of people drive him off the forum, that's just daft but if that's the case then I'm sorry, Martin has posted a lot of useful information in the past.

Agreed Blue. The people who have criticised Martin are only afraid it might put off visitors and affect them financially. I have heeded the warnings and taken more care where I park and what I leave in the car but it hasn't put me off one iota. Compare Portugal with the race hate violence and gun crime in the UK.

Don't leave us Martin and keep the news updates coming. Can I suggest though that you finish off with some good news like they do on the BBC.

The weather was fantastic over the holiday period and looks to continue for the next few days at least.
