no longer updated - Tolls on the A22

I'm coming around to the idea of reporting Portugal to the European Union. They are bound to have a consumer protection section. IF you cannot pay the tolls incurred on the return journey to the airport and your hire company does not do it for you, you could be clocking up late payment penalties. will obviously have to wait to see what charges are finally charged to my CC but at this stage have given up on Travelrent having paid them and emailing me the amount. another wait and see what happens scenario.

the legal position explained to me is...it is the hire company have to provide details to the authorities for who had the car at the time of any unpaid tolls only upon request. The hire company do NOT charge your credit card for unpaid tolls it is upto the authorities to pursue these, from what I hear they are unlikely to incur the cost of chasing small amounts.

I hear it changes in January so we can wait and see what great technical advances they introduce then...thats if there are any toll gantries left working!

What if though, a hire car is spinning up and down the motorway (different renters) fairly frequently the total amount just might be worth pursuing from the authorities point of view. Then again, if they know it's rented and they have to pursue different renters........

Joey enjoy the cigar...its only the inept systems in the PO that cant split, a hire company has the papers to show each rental start time and date so for multiple hires on the same day they would provide a list of journeys and the hirer at each particular time so it would be split there into smaller chunks....I honestly cant see them chasing any non paid rental, they are clueless on most aspects and this is a step into the complete unknown....I reckon as most people will pay the first days hire your return journey will get covered this way....

It will be interesting to see what changes are scheduled for january

I did CVO to airport in 55 minutes on the N125 yesterday as opposed to my normal 40 -45 minutes on the A22.

Is saving 10 minutes worth all the hassle ?

The problems will probably not arise until the Easter/Summer holidays.

and the toll charges won't be on the CTT system for at least a minimum 24hrs after you have been beeped by the cameras. so queuing and then trying to pay will be a waste of time. What a fiasco. Hopefully things will get better

When we head from the airport towards the a22 we are so used to looking out for tbe blue Portimao signs about 10 mins into the journey. Feeling we may, by accident take the same route, so what am i looking for when you get to the turn off for Almancil which I think must just be the airport side of the a22?

After going through the second set of traffic lights on the EN125, when you would normally get in the left-hand lane to go to the A22, get in the right-hand lane and follow the signs to stay on the EN125 west-bound. It’s very straightforward.

For off season or early morning departures the 125 is a viable option but the last thing I want to do is sit in traffic for 20 mins at the quartra estrada junction and around Algarve shopping etc( we have been in 20 min queues there at some times of the year.

We will stick to the A22 .

I guess you get to the exit for N125 Almancil and take it, instead of going straight on for the IP/A22 ....
