New low cost Internet connections

Post by maccasa »

I picked up a leaflet from the phone shop at Intermarche for SAPO last week - they have an offer - valid until end Dec - for broadband internet connection - 12mb download, 1 mb upload for € 14.99/mth - it includes a house phone and 3 mths free MP3 downloads (limited amount). It then goes up to € 19.99 after 3 mths. but NO connection or installation charge.

That seems a pretty good deal and compares well with using a dongle, but gives you much faster rates and an unlimited amount of downloads

Dont think so - you have to be in the sapo cable area and according to the literature Installation and connection are stated as Normally €91 and €27 but now included free. You can get a leaflet at the phone shop at intermarche and the lovely little girl with the beautiful eyes will explain it.

We need internet connection. Am I forced to get a phone line in order to have the internet. (Yes I know woman who has no clue about technology). Obviously in blighty I have a landline automatically. I really do not need a phone in the villa as we will not be there. Is IVA on top of this? Is this something I can order from here or do I need to get a form?

But if I bought this package would I still need a dongle? A dongle does not fit in an iPad. :?:

You may well be right but this might help.......buy one locally!

Key points about iPad micro SIMS
Remember that phone SIM cards will not fit into your iPad, not even ones from the iPhone, you'll need iPad SIM cards for that. You'll also need to read up on the information pertaining to data limits for using a 3G package on the iPad. Invariably you'll always be able to add extra data allowance if you're a heavyweight user, or perhaps switch to a more capable deal that offers much more in the way of flexibility. Our comparison tables will give you the lowdown as we begin to add more providers (such as 3 and Vodafone) over the coming months.

Travelling with the iPad? Well, remember that you can always connect to Wi-Fi hotspots pretty much anywhere you go in the world. However, if you're hooking up to your iPad SIMs 3G service then a potentially more effective idea is to buy a micro SIM card from a local network provider when you arrive at your chosen destination. Don't be tempted to simply assume that your deal or package will cover your online needs while you're overseas as getting this wrong can result in very expensive bills. Be sure to check with your network provider on what sort of terms and conditions they specify for connecting when you're on your travels.

Licy if it fits an Ipad you can have my Kanguru Dongle. All you need do is present the swipe card to a local phone shop in CVO and you are topped up. Just plug the Dongle into the Ipad or computer/laptop and bingo you are online. The internet speed connection is very impressive.

PM me and I will send the package to you and hubby! I have one spare and I don't need it. Face facts it ain't much good in Camden Town or in Dublin when I am there!

Hi LICY

What you need is a Mi-Fi device like the UK 3 one I have if you want internet on the move. You can get them in Portugal and they create a mini Wi-Fi area around the portable device that up tp 5 iPads/PCs can access and go online. Optimus and Orange I think do them but if you go to Guia shopping you will find them in the mobile shops. Around €29.99 per month I think for unlimited downloads but may be available on PAYG. It is smaller than a mobile, yes your iPad can connect to it wirelessly and you do not need a phone line!
