Fitted kitchen

now we are back nome our appliances are being fitted which I would otherwise be happy about. We have however received a picture of our dryer and washing machine which are the larger load type, that show they will be proud of the side wall unit and by the looks of it the worktop too, although that is not installed. we did not go for integrated due to costs, but our kitchen is very open plan to the social area so you will see the protrusion. has anyone else got a built under version of machine and does it stick out or did they maybe bring out the cupboard either side of the appliance and maybe have a deeper worktop? I know my machine at home in the utility area do the same, but it is shut away and my worktop and cupboards were built in in the days of the 5kg machines not 7 and 8kg machines.

Having an appliance which sticks out proud isn't all bad. I admit that it's best hidden, especially in a social area such as you describe, but as you chose a large one to deal with bigger loads I think you'll have to learn to live with it.

If you want to change any purchased item you can, under Portuguesed law, do so without reason within 2 weeks provided such item is returned to the supplier in its original container and with the receipt.

Perhaps this may enable you to change for a smaller size ?

dear all I like the idea of putting the machines elsewhere, but with Mr Licy away AGAIN I have not been able to seek permission. On top of that we must seek agreement of the man of power on the project, then persuade the kitchen fitter to hold off installing that section of worktop, unless it can still be installed and then another cupboard pushed in. Worry as I think they may start installing worktops today. my bloody husband is never around when I need him. Grrr!

You are not alone, we had our dishwasher replaced,( wrong one supplied ) our cupboards re configured and hob replaced, again wrong one fitted. No problems with the kitchen company.
I cooked our first meal, spagbole, in a cast iron pot on the BBQ.
It all worked out in the end

Should not be an issue fitting a cupboard under the worktop as the carcass just needs to be fixed to the tall cupboard on the left and the filler panel on the right - if anyone tells you different they are having you on!!!!

Sorry to hear about this problem you have Licy. If it helps, at least it is a presentational problem instead of a structual problem. The latter would be a terrible nightmare so an oversized domestic utillity machine is a blessing comparatively.

If your hubby is away so often you should just make a unilateral decision, unless of course he is the chief cook & bottle washer in which case the kitchen is his territory.

Licy, some people build or renovate new homes and they are brilliant at it and face no problems. Not because they have brilliant foresight and planning but because they learnt the hard way and problems they faced they will avoided in the future.

If this is your first house building from scratch in Portugal you have done exceedingly well.
