General strike 24th Nov - Faro airport closed

noticed that easy jet have cancelled flights on the 24th as a result of the strike

although no news from other airlines as yet

just rang Monarch on their free number and was advised that the strike has not been "confirmed" ..I was told for people flying from UK they are working on flying them to Seville and then transporting by bus to Faro.. didn't ask about going the other way.

matters still to be resolved so it seems

Radio news (KISS FM) was saying the opposite - i.e. the strike is ON, but they added that there is still time for all to change. :?

"2011 News - Flights - Portuguese General strike - Thursday 24 November

Monarch Airlines has been advised that industrial action by Portuguese Air Traffic Controllers will take place on Thursday 24 November 2011 and will affect all flights operating to/from Portugal on this date.

In order to minimise disruption caused by the strike, all Monarch flights scheduled to operate to Faro on 24 November will be diverted to Seville and coach transport provided to/from Faro.

The following flight schedules will now operate:

Gatwick/Faro/Gatwick
ZB214 Gatwick – Seville depart Gatwick 07.00 / arrive in Seville 10.35
ZB215 Seville – Gatwick depart Seville 13.05 / arrive Gatwick 14.35

Birmingham/Faro/Birmingham
ZB402 Birmingham – Seville depart Birmingham 07.15 / arrive in Seville 11.05
ZB403 Seville – Birmingham depart Seville 14.05 / arrive Birmingham 15.45

Manchester/Faro/Manchester
ZB580 Manchester – Seville depart Manchester 07.40 / arrive Seville 11.40
ZB581 Seville – Manchester depart Seville 14.55 / arrive Manchester 16.45

Customers booked to travel to Faro from Gatwick, Birmingham and Manchester are advised to check-in as normal for their flight. On arrival in Seville, onward coach transportation has been arranged to Faro Airport."

Ryanair have cancelled our flight on 24th and also some flights on 23rd

Our Easyjet flight to Luton on 24th was cancelled, and we went to the airport expecting to be accomodated on either Wednesday or Friday. The next available flight they could offer was to Liverpool!!! on Sunday, or Stansted on Monday, which we took.
The upside was that the extra 4 days we had to spend in CVO were the sunniest and warmest days of the whole trip, and we were sorry to have to leave yesterday.
