Re: As Aves (The Smokehouse).
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to recall reading about a place in or near Cvo called the smokehouse posted in one of the threads, it could be a year or so ago, I think they did a sort of runner? or just disappeared.

That was Simon McDonald - see here: viewtopic.php?t=13681
(The Smokehouse).
Hi Pato and Hampshire Rich - OK, lets straighten things out here a little.
Fumeiro do Algarve was set up, in Torre near Alcantarilha in 2008 by my hubby John, with Simon McDonald as his partner. Early in 2009, Simon decided that he, because of the credit crunch, no longer wanted to be involved on the Algarve, but wanted to concentrate his efforts on his own long established business back in Scotland. Although this was a blow to John, he continued with the business until he was informed that the Portuguese landlord had no legal right to let the building to Fumeiro do Algarve, as he was in conflict with his partner, who himself had no idea that FDA had been letting the property from his partner, even though legal documents from Solicitors had been done. This meant that John had to leave the building in Torre and set up elsewhere, after having spent over 30K on Deposit/construction work etc to make it legal for John to operate there!
John continued to Smoke foods for clients orders and then was asked if he wanted to take a restaurant (and build smokers at the back) in Ladeira do Vau, with the owner as a partner, early in 2010. The owner decided that it was too much for him to be working full time so gave John the opportunity to run it alone, which he has been doing since July 2010. However, for legal reasons, which I am unable to go into, he left the restaurant in Ladeira do Vau on the 12th October. NB We are no longer at As Aves and have nothing at all whatsoever to do with As Aves.
As this has been his business for the past 3 and half years, he is damned if he is going to give up. So we will be setting up very close to Carvoeiro within the next week or so, however, we are taking it slowly, crossing T's and dotting i's as you can imagine - Twice bitten twice shy being the bone of contention here!!!!
So, he has far from "done a runner" and has continued to provide excellent smoked food along the Algarve regardless of the obstacles put in his way, for the past 3 and a half years.
As his wife, I am extremely proud of him, as when we first came here to the Algarve, we came because of John's ill health, but he has carried on, despite anything else, because he is so very passionate about what he does and how he does it, he enjoys seeing the results and still smokes in a traditional artesanal "Scottish" manner.
So, I hope that has clarified a few things here and we hope to see you at our new venue very soon. We have got a facebook page (The Smokehouse) and we have a new website now http://www.thesmokehousealgarve.com
Thank you

Yeah! good luck from me too, I said "do a runner" with tongue in cheek, hope I didn't offend you, I know how hard it is to run your own business.
Re: As Aves (The Smokehouse).
No offense taken Pato, still waiting for final details of our new premises near Carvoeiro.... x
Re: As Aves (The Smokehouse).
Hiya Suzibear,
Hope you are all well and good luck in the new venture, despite all the bad grief you have succumbed to in the past.
Your smoked products are the very finest one can get, and both Richard and I still mention and savour the delicious smoked goods we ate of yours following my recipe success with you way back. (beetroot and smoked salmon)
