DIY

Post by Hubba »

Hi,

We are new owners in Carvoeiro this year and are looking for general suppliers for various items as listed, being in the building trade in the UK we have full usage of supplier accounts but would like to understand if these type of suppliers are available near to Carvoeiro and as a back up if there is a general supplier such as Home Base - B&Q that we would use in the UK.

Wood stain - paint supply - general decoration
Plumbing parts - white good supply - taps/showers
Ceramic tile - bonding & grout
Joinery - doors - frames - bespoke supplier ??

Picture supply - picture framing
Bedding - curtains & poles

It would also be interesting to get any tips on local trades people that would be prepared to take on final connection works to installations built by myself, or any horror stories that make this way of working a NO NO.

Also interesting to hear any pointers on shipping to Carvoeiro from the UK.

Look forward to any help ??

Hubba.

There are a number of local DIY type [places - closest is IZI on the N125 outside Lagoa towards Faro - they do a trade card. Next closest is AKI on the portimao retail park on N125 towards lagos. There is a Makro, a Maxmat and a Leroy Merlin all close together on the N125 by the Algarve shopping centre in Guia.

There are numerous shipping companies - look in the Algarve resident for the names and get the cheapest quote - my favourite is Algarve Removals, who I have used 4 times for largish shipments includng the original "move". For small items there are several shippers like DHL, DPD, UPS, fedex etc which tend to be expensive, but if you use an internet agent like transglobal express or interparcel, you can get 50-70% discounts.

For ceramics and bath stuff there are several palces locally - the biggest id by the first set of lights at Fatacil, as you go ito Lagoa (just past IZI)

Mirrors are crazy prices in PT - Leroy Merlin and De Borla (at portimao retail park) are the cheapest

Good Luck

Hi Hubba

Azulejos del Vado, Parque Empresarial Algarve, Lagoa (near the Fatacil) for bathroom fittings, sanitary ware, tiles, grout, tile cement etc. e-mail:- comercial.lagoa@azulejosdelvado.com Tel:- 00351 282 343 621 ask for Antonio.
For pipe and fittings (and generaL builders supplies) try Sulcave-Comércio e Materiais de Construção Lda Tel:- 00351 282 343 554 . Out the front door of Azulejos del Vado, turn left and walk past CIN. Keep going and turn 2nd left and you will see Sulcave over the road on the right.
CIN for quality paint (they mix colours on site) and varnish etc. also near the Fatacil tel:- 00351 282 342 795 ask for Jorge.
As for bespoke joinery try Osvaldo Pires Marcos Lda (Lagoa) who manufacture wooden doors etc. Tel:- 282 341 780 and e-mail:- osvaldopiresmarcos@sapo.pt They are located in a large white and blue building beyond the Parque Empresarial Algarve heading east i.e. if coming from Lagoa past CIN on the left and the Fatacil on the right and over the roundabout. They are about 500m on the left.

The suppliers above all supply to the local trades.
