Which service provider for Internet ?
Which service provider for Internet ?
Now the villa is nearing completion we need to sort out. Service provider for Internet. has anyone got any recommendations for who we should approach and how much is the standing charge per month. here in the UK we have phone and Internet connection for £15 per month and we can use the Internet as much as we want. As for a phone I'm not bothered as we can use our mobile so would really prefer Internet only.

Re: Which service provider for Internet ?
We have cabo visao which provides a internet link, phone ( much cheaper than using a mobile ) and PT tv. with the degrgrading sat signals we find that we are watching more of this.

Last time I checked it was ~ €39/mth - if you aren't there very often the dongle route is the cheapest, as the TV is lousy. A 1.4 m sat dish for ~ €350-400 (depending on number of TV outlets you want) and you get freesat or freesky for TV and then pay for the dongle on pay as u go.
Re: Which service provider for Internet ?
There is very little competition here and as a result any service will be more expensive than the UK. After being with an independent supplier for phone calls I came back to PT when they cut their standing charge. You can get the line for €9.99 a month. I use SAPO for the internet and get a download speed of about 7 mbps. I pay for 8 because that is all my line will take and the cost is roughly €25 per month. With internet billing and direct debit payment you get free unlimited downloads. I use VoipStunt for most of my my phone calls and the phone to phone system where you talk to the other party using the normal handsets after making a computer connection costs 5 cents a call plus VAT for up to 300 minutes a month. I understand that Skype is now quite usable also.
I have no real problems with the SAPO service. I have used their technical service to help setting up my wifi network and they were competent. Unfortunately their Customer Services are absolutely hopeless and they never address a complaint. For about a year I was paying for a 12 mbps service and when I queried why I was getting only 7 they told me that the line would support no more than 8. I spent weeks trying to get a refund but eventually gave up.

We are having a 1.9 dish installed so no problems with TV (or there shouldn't be). As you know we will not be staying in the villa as much as you do, but if it is rented out that we need to provide the facility. Bit thick re: dongles - only recently heard it mentioned.maccasa wrote:Last time I checked it was ~ €39/mth - if you aren't there very often the dongle route is the cheapest, as the TV is lousy. Re: Which service provider for Internet ?
A dongle is a plug in wireless connection and all the PT networks supply them,
You have various options of PAYG or monthly payment.
I went back to a PAYG in September as we were travelling around , it was very expensive as I needed the internet a lot ( I put on 20 euros in 1 week ) . A Monthly subscription which we used to have was much better value.

Could I expect those renting to have a dongle or could they add credit to my dongle if it were left at the villa? Sorry to be dim.EMM wrote:A dongle is a plug in wireless connection and all the PT networks supply them,

Re: Which service provider for Internet ?
You had better ask Bruce if I'm blonde. Would you consider yourself white blonde? I don't need a dongle here or a dingle dangle. You are such a flirt. Re: Which service provider for Internet ?
Pato guess you have your answer from my lovely friend who certainly says all the right things, despite having such a gorgeous wife himself.

Re: Which service provider for Internet ?
I agree! she obviously likes the subservient rough and ready type of male though, unlike the handsome sophisticated breed similar to myself, as they say "there's no accounting for taste". By the way it's judy with a lower case "j" her name is Kath, she's a scouser from West Derby, in coloquial language a judy, hence the Beetles song Hey! jude.LICY wrote:Pato guess you have your answer from my lovely friend who certainly says all the right things, despite having such a gorgeous wife himself.![]()
Re: Which service provider for Internet ?
I know a judy is a girlfriend/lady friend, but I would want to be known with a capital J to show how important I am.pato wrote:I agree! she obviously likes the subservient rough and ready type of male though, unlike the handsome sophisticated breed similar to myself, as they say "there's no accounting for taste".
