Barca Velha
Barca Velha
Opposite the Fatacil. Had excellent lunch there yesterday. 7.50 euros for main and pud. I had stuffed squid in sort of onion & tomato gravy, with chips, rice, and salad. Then chocolate mousse. Price also included a drink.

We ate in this restaurant last Friday night and thoroughly enjoyed it. The restaurant has a large decked area outside and is nice inside - a lovely bold shade of blue.
It was busy and just about eveyone else there was portuguese and the menu very portuguese (a test of my language skills as I'd forgotten the dictionary) but this was part of the attraction. I ordered a bottle of house red and got a litre jug - very drinkable and drink it we did! Meal 7.50 each which was excellent value. During the evening there was a dance in the back room which was all a bit of a mystery involving a friendly bouncer and tickets.

Its one of our regular lunch haunts and the best value meal in town, as you can tell from the mainly Portuguese clientele. E7.5 for three courses and wine or beer is a steal.

This has always been a good value little restaurant, I'm glad if the latest owners are actually making it pay, trouble is the location, I really don't want a view of the fatacils corrugated metal fence when having lunch on a beautiful sunny day.
Re: Barca Velha
I go there for the good value food and the company of my friends, so view (or lack of) is immaterial.blue wrote:This has always been a good value little restaurant, I'm glad if the latest owners are actually making it pay, trouble is the location, I really don't want a view of the fatacils corrugated metal fence when having lunch on a beautiful sunny day.

Fortunately I know many restaurants where you can go with your friends, get good value & enjoy a view. Not a necessity certainly but definitely a bonus.

My experience is you pay for the view.

Really?? Oh well guess we've just been lucky.
