Hide online presence

Post by ron5000 »

This has possibly been discussed in the past but why is there a "hide online presence" check box when you log in

Well MC might want to hide the fact from Sharen if he was supposed to be mowing the lawn.

On my Hisaronu-based forum one member is always 'hidden', and we (the Mods and I) suspect he is 'spying' for a rival forum. Admins and Moderators can see all 'hidden' usernames and it is easy to see who is online and exactly where they are looking. You might hide from the Indians but you can't hide from the Chiefs! :P

Is it the "arrows" that give them away ?

Ron

I couldn't agree more. Surely the purpose of this (and every other forum) is to is see at a glance the who is around should you decide to respond to a topic.

I wonder if there is a tool that can be used to report on the general levels of 'attendance' for hidden v revealed members over say a 6 month period. If the majority are always hidden - what's that saying?

I never realised such an option existed - not that I would have done anything about it.
