Portugal is just catching up with the UK, Telephone lines, lead flashing anything copper,all are high on the scrap metal criminals lists.

Where do you live, the UK has one of the highest burglary rates in Europe not to mention street riots.
All new UK doors and windows have to have a minimum security rating that makes them seem like fort Knox compared to those we have in Portugal.

My sister has just had a large extension built onto their house & cabling was knicked from their garden during the work. I always had the back door open in our home in the UK & frequently forgot to lock it when I went out, we were never burgled. Having said that a couple of our neighbours were in broad daylight, I think our having 2 large dogs probably had something to do with our luck. Burgled once in the Algarve & that was when we had a month rental at Arias dos Moinhos.

I live in Lancashire and have a holiday home in Cumbria neither of our properties have anything other than locking windows and doors.
My company make and fit wooden/upvc windows and doors, we must be out of date as the only security devices we provide are locking windows and double locking doors.

I would assume that the thief must have a good knowledge of electrical works, because if that was an opportunist thief he would have probably risked death by electrocution by pulling out the cables especially on a pole!

Are we coming to a situation where any item is not immune from theft?

As more an more people suffer from the austerity regime and unemployment rises I fear that the answer is yes. Anything which can be removed a sold must be seen as fair game unfortunately.
