Walk : 14 September 2011 : Vale Fuzeiros

A lovely walk in the Vale Fuzeiros : it´s a bit of a drive to get there, but well worth it. Walk duration about 2 hours 15 mins, with a nice cafe at the end!

Directions : drive from CVO to Silves , go over the bridge and turn right and follow the N124 for about 7 kms until you see a turning on the left signposted " Barragem do Arade 3 kms".......the signpost is in a small triangular traffic island , which has a large palm tree on it......for a picture of this point see:

It might be simplest to meet here at 0945.....the start of the walk is another 5 minutes drive away.

If you want to meet at trhe start of the walk itself, then drive in the direction of the Barragem for 1km when there is a cafe on the left: turn right, signposted Canestros and Gregorios.

Drive through both Canestros and Gregarios for 3kms then turn sharp left, almost doubling back on yourself.

Drive 2kms till you come to a T junction at top of hill , turn right for about 2kms and park in village by O Gralha cafe, which is on the left.

There are a couple of uphill stretches. Don´t forget walking boots/stout trainers and , ideally, walking poles...and water. No charge, of course.

If any of you have done this before, we can go on a Torres/Corres variant!

Sorry we missed Caroline, who had to pick up a friend from the airport : hope to meet again soon.
We nevertheless had a hearty group of 7 to tackle the menhirs , though it was warm!
