As Aves restaurant
As Aves restaurant
This is a relatively new restaurant run by suziebear - who used to be a regular contributor to the forum - her husband John and family. It is a little bit out of the way in Ladeira do Vau but well signposted from the second roundabout on the road to Monchique from Portimao from the N125 - it took us 20 minutes from CVO centre.
Four of us went for Sunday and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We were warmly welcomed by Suzie and invited to peruse the blackboard menu with a choice of 5 starters, 5 mains and a wide choice of desserts.
The men chose John's own smoked salmon (delicious and plentiful if, being a bit fussy, sliced rather thick) and the ladies chose avocado and salmon salad which they pronounced delicious.
For mains the men chose meat, roast lamb or slow roasted pork medallions (both very good) although the presentation of vegetables (well cooked carrots and red cabbage) a bit amateurish. The ladies chose smoked chicken and fish pie which was served in the most enormous dishes making the portions look ridiculously small but tasty although the chicken flavour was rather overpowered by the fish. Desserts ranged from treacle tart (delicious but too small a portion),to orange cake, creme brulee or fruit. Wine and coffee included at €15 was exceptional value.
John and Sue have had an up and down business experience since coming to the Algarve but now seem, with their family aiding and abetting, to have found their niche. We wish them all the best, will certainly be returning and can recommend them for a slightly different style of food. There are a few small rough edges to be knocked off as indicated above and some soft furnishing required to reduce the echo effect which makes conversation difficult but with the standards and service they are offering should be a winner for them. Contact is 914 522 079.

Re: As Aves restaurant
We recently visited As Aves for lunch. John,Suzie and family made us very welcome. The restaurant is a little off the beaten track but very easy to find. Directions and details of the menus are on their website http://www.asavesalgarve.com.
We had a lovely lunch consisting of a 'smoked platter' which has of samples of all the smoked fish and meats which are prepared in their smokehouse. This was very very good, I would recommend this to any one. We also had the Fish Pie which is a speciality of the house, lovely creamy filling and smooth potato absolutley delicious.
We have not tried their evening menu but we were very impressed with our visit and will certainly go back.

Re: As Aves Restaurant & Smokehouse
Thank you to Roy and Patti for your comments - we hope to see you all again soon.. xx
It has certainly been a roller coaster ride here for the past 3 years, but we are still enjoying it , John is still a Smokin' (anything but cigarettes!) and tend to please the people that do visit us (rather fewer in numbers than we would like - but these are still tough times when people, especially residents, tend to eat in more than eat out).
My motto is for those of you who have watched 'Finding Nemo' - "just keep swimming, just keep swimming...""" in true Dory fashion!
Anyway, we are fast approaching our first birthday Friday 1st July and are about to launch our new Summer Menu (Including Tapas) - so for all of those of you who want to escape the Tourist areas, head off over to Ladeira do Vau, really easy to find and to park and sit on our terrace away from it all! We were really chuffed to find out recently that we were voted a Certificate of Excellence from Trip Advisor and are number 1 Restaurant in Portimao so we must be doing something right
- if you want to find out about us and what we do, have a look at our website www.asavesalgarve.com or look at Trip Advisor - As Aves Restaurant and Smokehouse
Thank you
Suex

Re: As Aves restaurant
Based on the GPS co-ordinates given at their website, I've added a marker to the CVO Restaurant website.
I hope its close enough

Re: As Aves restaurant
They are very nice people and extremely hardworking, the menu has just changed to Tapas based menu and is well worth a visit...you get the Smokehouse and the restaurant all in one day, its a great change from restaurant hill, you cant miss it when you get to Ladeira do Vau ... plenty details if you Google it
