Yes I know there are hundreds of threads on Insurance. But this is a specific question so please bear with me.

Does anyone with a Millennium Bank BCP mortgage have Insurance with a UK based company?

I have been told by the bank that they won't allow a foreign company to insure the property even if their interest is noted on policy.

I have been with Ocidental Seguros (the Millennium banks own company) for 4 years now which has become increasingly expensive.

I'm not sure if I'm being mugged.

It's illegal under EU law now - you can use whichever insurer you want. Speak to your lawyer if they get heavy handed.

I hope it doesn't come to that as i have a relatively good relationship with the Bank, but it's good to have in reserve.

Although it's only us Brits who bow to EU Laws, so who knows what their reaction will be .

After several emails and phone calls Millenium have now relented slightly and are saying that our insurance does not have to be through them but must be with a Potuguese company.

Does anybody know if this is correct and if it is, any recommendations for a Portuguese insurance company?

Still feel it must be a more common problem.
