Restaurant A Ria - Ferragudo
Restaurant A Ria - Ferragudo
Try this restaurant; its not the best food in the world, its simple, cheap and fresh - the fish is actually really good. Most places in the Algarve ONLY sell frozen or farmed fish (other than Sueste and a couple of others) where as Philip (sorry cant remember if thats an F for filipe or the english way), heads off to the markets at 2 or 3 in the morning to get his stuff.
Its small, friendly and service has recently improved since the brother of Mario who works at Sueste (and is the hardest working and best waiter in the Algarve) has started working there and his big brother has been training him how to serve properly.
They will try to accommodate changing food as well!! I often have a different sauce to that on the menu and add ingredients like mushrooms to the creamy sauce.
The owner is working hard to suceed in this place but needs the customers through the year not just in the summer to be able to invest and keep going - he deserves it so give it a try.

Although you do see a lot of restaurant owners first thing in the morning in Intermaché, Modelo, recheio etc buying their fish, meat and veg there are still many that DO get up VERY early and take the trouble to go to the market (or down to the docks if they've got a card to get in) and buy the early catch.
As for the difference between "farmed" and fish from the sea, not many people can tell

This restaurant was taken over in April 2011 and the food standard is much higher as is the service. Well worth a visit will leave you wanting to return and try more of the menu. Congratulations A Ria putting Ferragudo on the map
