insulting rental offer

What is going on - we rent out a detached villa, nice area 15 minutes walk from the centre, sea views, private pool, totally refurbished, if i say so myself lovely, offered at a much lower price than in the past and we think excellent value for money at 990 for the high season, 500 for the low.
In the past week we've had two requests both saying will we rent the villa for 2 weeks in August for 500 a week, written in a way that makes me think the people think they'd be doing me a favour.

A. No we wouldn't, not ever.
B. It makes no financial sense to do so
C. We only started to advertise this year in April and i could have rented the weeks in question 10 times over.

WHAT IS GOING ON ?

Well if you dont ask you dont get, someone may be willing to take it at that - its called savvy buying not insulting! Do you always pay the asking price for something? wouldnt you try to get the price of a car reduced?

The point is not 'savvy buying' - i totally approve, and sometimes make special offers and will negotiate for longer rentals.

Its the fact that anyone offering 50% for a holiday in the middle of August is insulting, not savvy, just downright rude.

If anyone accepts peak season offers like this - i suspect they'll be bankrupt shortly and the renters will get what they deserve, being savvy enjoying their main holiday under the flightpath or next to the motorway or sewage farm.

I have holiday rented for many years in the village, mostly over Christmas, and I have been given some fantastic deals, far better than what you're asking and for better locations and facilities. Each of the properties have been via forum members and it was they that set the price, not I.

There are members out there willing to make sensible offers . . . it's just knowing who they are.

I'm surprised at you Michael, you haven't been to my property so have no idea what we offer.
So i suspect your saying you've had better this , that and the other without knowing anything about our property speaks volumes about you.

We make sensible pricing offers every week of the year, my house is in fact advertised here and we've conciously made it the lowest price (but not the worst house) in its category.

We never surcharge for any reason , Christmas, New Year, May bank Holidays, and Easter are the same price at our house as all of the other low season weeks at 500 per week.

But we do appreciate feedback so if you can genuinely beat the prices above for comparable villas, we're happy to adjust our prices.

Maybe, regarding the air-con - but i think we're talking chalk and cheese.

I'd looked at other air-con for sale and decided that it was fair start point for second hand units - in fact the offer i made was higher than i'd ever seen for second hand units on Ebay, OLX etc, so i thought it was fair.
Certainly the owner didn't say it was insulting - but it was a mute point - already sold.

If anyone else can find August holiday weeks in a detached villa with a private pool, within walking distance of the beach in Carvoeiro for 500 then i'll also withdraw my original message.

Snowytheboy i'm also happy to repeat my earlier offer to you 50% of the value of your house, holiday home or car.

There is no such thing as an " insulting offer ". You have advertised a product someone has made an offer thinking that it is too expensive for them.
You can accept. reject or negotiate .
Did you go back with a counter offer ???.

We were thinking of bringing our lad and his girlfriend & grandson next year to CVO - in that case we'd have to forfeit our usual rented accomodation in CVO for a villa. But when i investigated the other evening i decided CVO villa prices were just too expensive.
Last week we returned from Fuerteventura where i hired a 2-bed, 2-bathroom house with patio and small pool for £385 for the week, for the five of us - lovely peaceful location, only 5 minutes walk to the beach, 15 mins into town.
I just cannot afford to pay normal CVO villa rental prices for the family to be honest.

There is an austerity 'drive' all across Europe - many people are starting to find things a bit tight, financially - if CVO and its villa renters want custom (esp next year) you may have to drop your prices to get a good set of bookings - i'm sure many of the property owners on tis forum have enough regulars every year not to have to do this, but we're in tough times - sensible 'home' economics may force the hand of a number of villa renters in CVO (and elsewhere).

To the original poster - if you still haven't rented out the weeks you're trying to fill a few days before, wouldn't you rather have 500 or 600 euros than nothing at all? It's called supply and demand i suppose - or 'a price that people are willing to pay' - a shrewd consumer will always get a bargain!

It depends. If you start cutting your margins to the bone, then it only takes someone leaving the aircon on full blast 24/7, breaking stuff etc., and your losing money. Dare I say that, in some instances, the people who try to get these special deals are the ones who might abuse the place?
