Hens and Stags on the increase

Post by TomUK »

Hopefully, Carvoeiro won't be too affected by this problem.
In May we noticed that there seemed to be more stag and hen groups around the Algarve than usual. Talking about this to a Portuguese friend, he told us that many travel agencies were now trying to improve flagging trade by advertising special three-day bargain breaks especially aimed at these groups. Adverts were placed on websites that younger people use and in magazines for that age group. He also knew of hotels and apartment complexes which have relaxed their rules which used to refuse bookings from large same sex groups for the same reason. So that's why these groups descend on Friday, Saturday and Sunday apparently. I can see increasing public order problems for Albufeira, Praia da Rocha and Vilamoura as a result!

I don't think (comparatively) sleepy Carvoeiro is that attractive to stag/hen dos. Thankfully!

Perhaps our resident 'young' person, kelly, would care to make a comment?

Another point about the influx in May is that many of the groups were amateur football teams on end of season trips. They included managers and committee men which meant a fairly wide age range. Having managed local football clubs for many years from the early 1980s to 2005, I know how difficult it is to keep them all in check on trips. For us it was usually a weekend in Blackpool or 'abroad' to the Isle of Man! Of course, when the demon drink is involved the job of controlling the louder ones becomes increasingly difficult!

Stacey, it is ttrative to the young ones, especially when its courtesy of mum and dad which is the case for lots of the Carvoeiro property owners. Fingers crossed by daughters will behave next week and enjoy the beach party and roundup.

The Inside Bar is on the "out road' CVO past A'Vela restaurant. The staff have been to some sort of college to learn all about making cocktails. Upstairs they have a pool table. They are really nice guys, always remember us. They will prob ask you what sort of things you like in a drink, then they will advise on a suitable cocktail for you if you can't make up your mind from the menu. Think this bar comes alive during the late part of the evening but they do have a happy I think 6pm till 8pm. I personally have not found better only Bar Talvez up restaurant hill where Sergio make a good cocktail..
