What ever has happened let get the facts right.

From what has been published there is no evidence that the Scottish lad was murdered. The father understandably believes that he was and that there has been a police cover up.
There are also claims ( unsubstantiated ) of drinks being spiked.

Other forums have posts from those who have cancelled or are considering cancelling holidays. one poster suggested that tourists come to carvoeiro as it is much safer , good for us but still not good for the Algarve.
Yet another poster made reference to a group causing problems in Carvoeiro ?????.

There is an element of tabloid paper type hysteria creeping in here.

Living in a UK holiday town such events are sadly just part of life, it does not stop people visiting, what it does mean that the nights are given over to the the drunks and rowdies as familes stay in or go home early. Which is what happpens anyway in parts ( only parts ) of Albufeira.

We were actually in Albufeira the other week when this attack took place. The unfortunate victim was returning to the Janelus do Mar apartment complex. The three towers that make up this complex are quite a way out of the main area. The 'Strip' has been mentioned, but these apartments are a good distance from there. There is a lot of unlit open land around Janelus de Mar and I would certainly be a bit wary of walking alone there after dark. Most people who stay there use taxis to come and go, which is considered to be safer apart from the fact that it saves long walk to get to the main areas. Like others, I think these attacks are a fact of modern life as layabout thugs try to get easy money. Nowhere is exempt - wasn't it just last year when a guy was attacked and murdered in Alvor? I'd always imagined Alvor to be a trouble free resort - it's certainly a lot quieter than the larger towns, but it just shows that you have to be careful anywhere. After dark, my better half and I stick to main streets where there are plenty of folks about - a lot of short cuts down back streets that we make in daylight are out of bounds after dark! Drunks are indeed vulnerable, but that shouldn't lessen the seriousness of these attacks.

The apalling Alvor attack if you read the reports from the trial is somewhat different from these where it appears that they are muggings gone wrong !!.
As ever when did the truth get in the way of a good tabloid story.

Not sure hat this attack in Albufeira was a mugging gone wrong - seems more like a vicious attack for no reason - as for Alvor, well a murder is a murder no matter how it is done - whether it is revenge, drugs, crime of passion, mugging gone wrong etc, it's still a murder.

Did anyone hear on kiss fm 06 June that a man was using an ATM in albufeira at 2 am and was set about by a group of 4 or 5 and laid them all out, turned out he was a cage fighter. Gnr arrived and put them in custody. Hope it is true and will wait for the NEWS to report it

If that had been the UK it would have been the poor sod who laid them out in the nick, lets hope its true and they are also the bastards that are responsible for the earlier incidents.

Read this in the resident, seems a conflict of stories between them & kiss fm, wonder which one is accurate.

Most annoying is the fact the guy never put a complaint in against these men and they are now back on the streets to cause more problems.

Take all the " local " news scources with a pinch of salt, ( Kiss FM has be known to read out the previous days news and to run adverts for defunct services etc ).
So far, it happened at 2.am or 4.am,. they were arrested they were not, it happened at an ATM , it happened by an ATM.

One thing is sure it is not a first hand report but someone un named talking about a " friend " of theirs.

I am sure I heard it before.

muggings can happen anywhere as some posters have already said but a particular problem for Portugal is its corrupt and discredited police force which puts tourists off from visiting this beautiful country
