Hail the conquering heros
Hail the conquering heros
walking around Messines Monday market interesting to see all the political parties out in force asking for votes , including the Mayor of Silves (who I like) ...what I found interesting was the reaction of the Portuguese, having got Portugal into an almighty mess , I would have thought that those representing these political parties would need armed guards .....but no not all - its hand shakes all round , smiles, while many are greeted by kissy kissy.

odd alright.
in ireland members of the governement party who got us in the mess were afraid to knock doors for fear of the response. 3 ministers actually got re-elected - the rest of the useless gobshites were dumped by the electorate along with most of the yes men (backbenchers). we know in all probability that the new government will not be any better but at least they are not to blame for the mess, or at least most of it. if the portuguese electorate haven't got the sense to dump the party who got them to this state - then they will deserve anything they get.
Re: Hail the conquering heros
Could it be that only 37 years after a revolution to get rid of a right wing dictator, the Portuguese are loathe to vote for a right wing party and prefer to stay with the socialists? Times may be difficult and the future not so rosy but the standard of living in the Algarve has improved enormously over the last 15 years. We in the UK don't always appreciate our democracy and don't necessarily understand others who are not so used to having this great privilege
