Lap pools

always wondered with the advent of summer why we never seem to see lap pools built here (designed for exercise and cooling off swimming rather than the large pools we see all the time)
and are ideal for one person swimming who needs the excercise for maybe heart problems

advantages are less water needed...warmer as water depth is not great (eg 25 metre x 1 metre deep x 1.5 metre wide)

I'd love a lap pool at home in the Uk for excercise, but when I am in portugal I want something a big more leisurely. Plus how do you sit and paddle with your glass (plastic of course) in a lap pool

Yes true - but I know of many here who have been told by doctors to swim for heart problems and have had built 15 metre x 4 mtrs x 3 mtres deep pools which are cold most of the time...for them a lap pool where they can swim a length is ideal ...not to mention the vast amount of water to fill a huge pool is such a waste (not to mention the chemicals etc)

If you are going to the expense - and have the area for - a 25 metre long poool - I cant see why a standard 8-10 x 4 and 1.5 m deep isnt just as good - only slightly larger volumes of water and with the rain we've had this year my pool has been emptied several times of ~ 300mm of water.

Use Solar panels to heat the pool by free sun and dont use chemicals - use a salt water based chlorinator system - the salt level is about the same as eye tears and the unit produces 1 ppm Cl level 9lower then normal pools) It uses approx 50 kg of standard sea salt each year (mainly lost due to water level changes)
