I want a simple way to store odd clothes etc. away from guests. We have a broom cupboard that is around 60cm x 60 cm and there's space at the top but a wall cupboard wouldn't work because the door wouldn't open. I was thinking that we could but up a strong hook (like a ladder hook) and then hang a suitcase from that, possibly with a lockable strap.

Knowing how clever you all are, can you come up with any cheap alternatives? A beer to anyone who does.

try spacebags? - if you use them they have habit of not staying airtight, perhaps one solution is then wrap in clingfilm to keep air in

If you have any Poundshops in your local area, they also sell the vaccum bags in different sizes. You will also find them for sale on Ebay.

MAKRO in Guia had gun cabinets circa 30 x 30 x 1.6m high with strong locks that you could put in the cupboard, fix to the floor and lock @ circa €110! This would allow you to hang clothes and leave valuables and when you are using the property would give you a secure place to leave valuables when you are out!!

This is an option but I'm not sure if there will be space to get the suitcase past the shelf, especially as it will be quite heavy. We have vacuum bags and plan to put the clothes in them. We have a positive input ventilator, so damp shouldn't be a major problem. Any cabinet would need to be fixed to the wall putting it floor level is not an option.

I've just thought of a variation on the shelf, put shelf brackets, then the suitcase could be slid in sideways and rotated to sit on the brackets. A lockable strap would keep it safe and secure.

Hello,

Our owners tend to make use of one of their existing wardrobes and just fit an extra yale lock. Clients almost expect to find a few locked cupboards/wardrobes when they are in someone else's property. Many also use one of the kitchen cupboards for their own essentials for the same reason.

I've done the brackets and it works well, providing we don't pu too much in the case and make it too heavy to lift.

Not possible - if you have a case you just keep filling it up until it is too heavy to move ...
So then you get another one - and you do exactly the same all over again ...

Seems to be doing the job, considering how wet it's been the place hasn't felt at all damp and we've had no heating on.
