Post by EMM »

We are consdering fitting one of these for guests to access the keys when they arrive and during their stay.

Has anyone else fitted these and what is the general opinion ??

They are an excellent idea.

We found it cheaper to buy a keysafe from B&Q at home and bring it out with us.

I've used one for 4 years now. Brilliant idea.
The only problem is that many are quite small and you need to be sure the key(s) will fit inside.

 Just ensure there is a light nearby for late arrivals. I fitted an outdoor light with an auto sensor - they are seriously cheap at Izzy.

I dont rent (not yet anyway) but think this might be for me. can be quite windy up in colina verde and the door has slammed a few times but luckily enough we always had a key on us. was trying to think of a way to have a spare key outside and this seems a good choice. thanks for the idea. :D

Are these boxes made of heavy duty metal to deter opportunists damaging/breaking into them and do you inset them into a wall to make them more secure, or are they just bolted onto an outside wall?

I've had one fitted but I keep forgetting the code, I still leave the key,(you know where) in the hope that the scallies will try to crack the key box.

I used to work in Housing with the elderly (UK), and many had this fitted. They worked well as long as you remember the number, and remember to replace the key in the box for the next person.

I have one fitted and it's excellent in case you forget or lose your keys, or for letting workmen in while you can't be there or for guests visiting. And you can change the number every time if you wish for security purposes. It only cost about 10 euros from AKI and was very easily fitted.

We have had one installed at my elderly mother-in-laws. It has been excellent with me, my wife and my boys all visiting, and her carer. We all have access yet with just one set of keys. The are heavy duty and installed correctly the local toe rags will NOT get in. Most have a heavy duty rubber flap for protection against the elements. Must admit, if I was ever in a position to be renting a holiday home I would use this method.

What's wrong with B&Q or Homebase.

We have had one from B&Q for 3 years and it has neither failed, or been broken into

How much do they cost in B&Q?

I had one fitted to our previous property and it has worked a dream. I bought it in Leroy Merlin for €10 - 4 Christmasses ago - they are now €27.45. I need two now and saw one in the key cutters in Intermarche for €54. My son is coming next week so if B&Q'a are less than that he can bring two with him :)

I do not know the quality of the leroy ones but at that price there is no saving over the " MASTERLOCK " sold in B&Q .
